Go to "Change PC Settings" at the bottom right
corner of the screen, below the icons. On the left,
scroll down and select "General Settings." On the
right, scroll down through the settings options to find
"Advanced Options."
This will close out of the standard Metro interface and open up a blue screen with several tiles. Select "UEFI Firmware Settings"—you may
need to first select "Tools and Settings" and then "Advance Options"—and then follow the prompt to restart and change settings.

Upon rebooting, the system should produce a startup
menu. Select "BIOS setup." Under the "System
Configuration" tab, find "Boot Options." (In some
instances, Boot Options will instead be found under
the "Security" tab.)
Once into the Boot Options menu, you will first find
"Secure Boot" and disable it. Still in the Boot Options
menu, find "Legacy Boot" and change it to enabled.
You will now be able to boot into your Windows 7
installation media. Depending upon whether you will
be installing it from a disc or a USB key, you will want
to change the Legacy Boot Order so that either the
optical drive or USB device take priority. Finally, exit
the BIOS, saving changes.

 It's far more involved than the downgrade process used to be, since Microsoft deliberately coerced OEM's to only produce Windows 8(+)
compatible h/w (i.e. desktops, laptops, etc). The downshot being, you can't just pop a Windows Vista or 7 install disk in the drive and head out
for lunch. The reason being UEFI BIOS's used on Win 8 compatible h/w doesn't allow for legacy boot options such as installing from optical
media.
I'm a computer tech' with over a decade in the business of pc repairs, upgrades/downgrades, and the like. It was a nightmare for me to install
Windows 7 on a Win 8 compatible laptop first time round. I don't like the chances for a layman with little to no background.
The biggest problem even if you manage to downgrade successfully, is driver support (or rather lack of it). The reason being, the OEM's
(again) deliberately, under pressure from Microsoft, only create Windows 8/8.1, or later, drivers for the h/w. If that's the case with your h/w, as it
was with the various ones i've encountered, you are s**t outta luck, even before you get started with the downgrade process.

I pulled out the drive and formatted the drive via an other computer first, and then ran cmd disk part and did an delete overide on the partitions, but forgot
the uefi disk, so it still boots win8 repair. now im going back to delete that one now, and see what happens.. trial and error...

Thanks. This article was a huge help. After using diskpart to take part all the partitions the Win 8 had a stranglehold on, I was stuck at booting from the
Win 7 DVD bot it would not complete loading the setup. I had disabled secure boot but did not know about the step of enabling the legacy boot. The

Toshiba BIOS wasn't a word for word duplicate of the one you show in this article, but it wasn't hard to search and figure out the equivalent areas on the
BIOS. Thanks again.

Boot from your Windows 7 disc.

Click "Install now".
 Accept license terms.
Choose Custom (advanced) installation.
 On the screen that shows your partitions, click "Drive options (advanced)".
Select a partition and click "Delete".
 things) Repeat for each partition until you only have unformatted space.

It's not worth the hassle anymore. Microsoft really screwed the pooch on this one. Windows 8 is worthless when it comes to doing work and is nothing
but Bob with tiles and colors. They've made a mess of the industry with this garbage. Out of a 2 TB drive, they had all but 1.3 TB in use for all of the
recovery/UEFI/image crap just gave up, returned the PC. Will buy a PC from someone not on the Windows 8 Koolaid.

I had HP laptop
20002b43dx that shipped with Windows 8, but I loaded Win 7 and now Ethernet, wifi, and pci bus aren't working. went to hp site and they don't offer
drivers for them for windows 7, only windows 8! They are forcing you to use windows 8 and trying to lock into a certain OS! Any help would be

Sorry for my comment 8 days ago. I really like this guide. However, the new aspire V5573G i7 nearly seems to be a w8 only machine. I succesfully
installed w7. But the installment of the driversoftware is impossible. Troubleshoot as you wish, there's no access to w7 compatible software for wlan
(unless from dubious sites), and 2 other features. I guess that only advanced systembuilders know a way around, and so I have brought the laptop to a
specialist today. I hope for the best, (but expect something else). We'll see in a few days. I'll keep you informed. But it's plain and clear that the new

aspire is a w8 monopoly machine. If it's really w7 incompatible (I hope not!), I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

This article will be a guideline for those who have bought a laptop with w8 preinstalled and wish to upgrade to w7. I'm one of them. I bought such a
laptop for my mother. I was happy to read your article and hoped that, if I did my homework well, it was not impossible to remove w8 and start up freshly
with w7. I even got some support from the manufacturer, with indications on how to proceed. Still, finding proper drivers is perhaps the most ennerving

and upsetting part of the whole process. Thus, for example, for 3 features of the laptop there are simply no drivers available for w7. So, what if the
laptop doesn't function anymore? Answer: recovery back into w8, clearly. But what confuses me most of all is the following: 1.: Suppose that the laptop
is equipped with a trusted computing chip inserted in the motherboard. 2: And suppose that you are a kind of genius who succesfully installed w7. Are
you sure that your laptop is inaccesible to remote access of third parties? Are you really certain that you're driving a chinese machine (formerly
equipped with w8) with plain selfcontrol in w7? It would be a terrible disaster to discover in a few years' time that you've been running a w7 program
(that you considered to be "safe") on a remotely controllable machine, and that there's a bridge between the trusted computing chip (for w8) and your

cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of GPT partition style???? please help?

Thank u sooooo much, i don't like windows 8 to colorful and to out of order, lol. helped me alot
everybody! In order to do this you have to have a windows 7 hard drive!
The Ones that you have to buy at the windows store... Just Saying.Notch

Ok I bought a new PC with Windows 8 preinstalled on it. It is an ASUS mother board. I absolutely hate the new OS. I do have a Windows 7 Ultimate
OS DVD and really don't care about saving any files on this machine as I didn't install very much on it, so it's no big loss. After reading this though, it
seems like it would be more of a hassle to try and do a clean install with the Windows 7 DVD. I can't just simply reformat the whole hard drive and install
the new OS?? Would it be better to just pull out the current hard drive and slap a new one in and install the Windows 7 OS instead? It just seems like it
would be less complicated. I am not super Techy so if anyone can tell me that would be awesome. I just need the simplest way to do this since I am not
saving any files on this computer. Thanks!

Even with these options I am unable to install windows 7. I have a new laptop and it is working fine but I want to install windows 7. It freezes when the
"Starting windows" screen comes up. I have chosen no options but the screen just sticks there after I say to start from the dvd. What do I do now?

win 7 pro production environment was dependable and universal for every tool I need. But my Dell XPS came with win 8 and my productivity went out
