Which MicroLogix controllers support Modbus TCP?

Can the MicroLogix 1400 support Modbus TCP communications?

Can the MicroLogix 1400 support both Master and Slave TCP communications?

Answer
The Only MicroLogix controllers that support Modbus TCP protocol is the ML1400 units shipping with Series B FRN (shipping since late 2010).

Series A MicroLogix 1400 controllers cannot be updated to Series B functionality ­ you must order a new MicroLogix 1400 in order to get a Series B controller with the new functionality.

RSLogix500 version 8.3 is required to setup and configure the Modbus TCP communications.

The MicroLogix 1400 Series B controllers support both the TCP Server and Client features. Modbus TCP Client takes over Modbus Master features and Modbus TCP Server takes over Modbus Slave
features on the Ethernet.

Both Modbus TCP Server and Client are enabled through Channel Configuration. For Modbus TCP Client, a MSG instruction is used to send or receive the Modbus TCP packets.

For Modbus TCP Server, the MicroLogix 1400 supports up to 16 connections at the same time. For Modbus TCP Client, 16 connections are supported.
