1. Motivation
The teacher shows the students a picture
about the nature and let them construct
questions related to the picture shown. The
teacher will call some students to write their
constructed questions on the board. “People ask questions to learn, to
gather information, to know about

2. Discussion

Very good! Now, there are two types of

clarifying questions, the open clarifying
questions and the close clarifying
questions.

OPEN CLARIFYING QUESTIONS are

those which more thought and more than a
simple one-word answer. It can take the
form of WH questions.

Examples:
 What are you going to do after the
class?
 How did you and your best friend
meet?
  When are you going to pass your
project?

“Very good class! Another type of clarifying

questions is the close clarifying questions.
CLOSE CLARIFYING QUESITONS are
those which can be answered by a simple
“yes” or “no”. They serve to obtain accuracy
in a more direct aspect of a discussion or
presentation and often framed as did, are,
were, shall, may, is questions.

Examples:
 Would you like to go to the movie
theatre on Saturday afternoon?
 May I borrow you pen because I left
mine in our house?
 Is that your final answer?

Activity:
Directions: In pair, listen to the audio
about global challenges. Raise and clarify
questions by constructing at least 5
questions about the audio. Use the open
and close clarifying questions.

questions related to the audio listened to.
