The device is used along with folly’s catheter to accelerate cervical ripening and induction of labor. The folly’s catheter can be passed through this device first and then into the cervical canal to reach above internal OS. Then the
bulb is inflated with 80ml of saline. The ripening device is slowly introduced into the vagina after lubricating with xylocaine jelly, to press on to the cervix. Then the folly is pulled down with force and fixed on to the side hole of
the device under tension. The tension on the folly exerts a pressing effect on the cervix which is sandwiched between the folly’s bulb and the device. This pressing effect will facilitate rapid ripening and dilatation of the cervix.
