BrainPOP supports UDL in the following ways:
Spring 2018_SJB
Instructional Software
• BrainPOP has Spanish and French versions of the assigned video for English language learners to view.
• BrainPOP has audio and visual support such as subtitles and pictorial clues in the video for students
with hearing impairments or students who are audio and visual learners.
• BrainPOP allows students to view a video unlimited times to help support students with learning
disabilities.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will introduce the study of pollution by asking the students what they already know about
pollution and its effect on the environment. The teacher will inform the students that they will be conducting
a research project where they will collect ideas on how to prevent pollution. Students will be encouraged to
remember at least one of the three ways to prevent pollution and save the environment that Tim and Moby
said in the video.
After the students watch the video, the teacher will put the students into three groups and instruct them
to watch the video one more time and listen for the topic she gave their group. The topics will be, conserve,
cleaning up, and chime in. Each of these topics is a way that the students can help save the environment and
prevent pollution. The groups will move to different sections of the room to listen to the video again on their
classroom devices. The groups will create a list comprised of facts from the video about their topic as well as
ideas they have come up with while brainstorming about their topic.
Once the students have finished their lists, each group will be instructed to create a Padlet on their
assigned topic. Each student in the group will post a fact on their Padlet to create a full page of how they can
reduce pollution and save the environment using their topic from the video. The completed Padlets will be
shared to the whole class.

Reflective Practice:
A way to extend this activity would be to post the Padlets on the classroom website or to share them with
the parents. You could challenge the students in your class to try and conserve, clean up, and chime in at
home for a week to see how much they recycle and how much less waste and pollution they create. The
students could then create a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation on how they incorporated conserve, clean up,
and chime in into their daily life.
