REACTION PAPER

The management of engineering concepts was the main topic for the first report, the
reporters tackled about the history of the history of engineering management, theories of
management particularly the set of rules that should be followed in managing an organization.
They also talked about the roles of engineers in the society and that engineers are not just building
structures and homes, they have more significant role in our society than that. Also they have a
prepared a case study which is related to civil engineering, they discussed why they choose it and
they presented a case study that is very relatable to the students who are commuting to go to school.
They give us enough information that made us knowledgeable the topics that they have discussed.

In the first sub topic of the report, I have learned about the building process of some of the
famous structures in different countries during the ancient times, I have learned the management
system they have used in order to finish the work properly. The one that I have remembered is the
building of Ancient Civilizations where Cyrus and Alexander the Great was the leader and they
are the one to command and decide in the constructions, they use almost the same management
strategy which the division or separation of work, they pick a certain group of staff that will
finished the work where they have their expertise and they also use discipline and delegation as
the main rule of their organization.

The next was the theories of management where the rules that are helpful in managing an
organization is tackled, there different theories that are made by different well known persons,
these theories are the main rules in order to have a well-managed organization. All of the theory
that they have showed are important especially if you are going to lead an organization, the theories
are all about teamwork, efficiency, coordination, equality and giving responsibility and all has a
one goal which to achieve a productive and efficient staff that will help you in achieving your
goals for the company.

Roles of engineers in the society, in this part the reporters made a comparison on how the
evolution of industrialization change the look of the world we live today, they made us see how
the engineers manage to innovate from ancient period to modern period. I have learned how the
process of building infrastructure evolved from the concrete and cements they used compare to
what they are using now in the present. I have become more knowledgeable on how the innovations
have become through the years that had past.

The case study of this group is about the bridge in San Pedro, Laguna that was not yet
completely finished up until now, it become interesting to me since I don’t usually pass by San
Pedro, Laguna and there is no news about that bridge that was left unfinished. The reporters said
that according to their research the main cause why it is not yet finished is the informal settlers
that are living in the area where the bridge will be build, the government cannot do anything to
make the people leave the place because they have no place to go to. The case study are informative
and relatable to students like me who experience the hassle of everyday commuting and the
struggle of being stuck in the traffic for how many hours,
