This study “AMA Student Handbook Plus” as a Mobile Application aims to design
and develop a mobile based application that can be easily used anytime and anywhere
by only using your android phones rather than having the traditionally student handbook
ones that needed to be print and cost more than this application and easily downloading
it freely on the store or website that it can be download. With only just registering and
loging in on your own created account and exploring more about “AMA Student
Handbook Plus” Mobile App.

This project is a mobile-based application as an alternative for the print version.

The development of this application is due to the need of the college to intensify
information dissemination ensuring understanding of the College’s policies, rules and
regulations thereby improve delivery of quality services. The respondents of the study
were the faculty and students of the College of Information Technology. The application
AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus

can be installed on any android devices designed on an interface responsive to the

users’ preferred screen resolution. The main objective of the study is to develop an
android-based student handbook application that runs on android devices in an offline
setting. Specifically, the project aimed to evaluate the android-based student handbook
application in terms of functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability and
portability.

The “AMA Student Handbook Application Plus” has also a so called “Directories” feature
that makes it more interactive to use by downloading such important updates and
events that the school has like the exams lists that can be downloaded easily and other
more feature to come on the upcoming updates on it. The future researcher may add
some functionality to the system like dynamically modifying the contents of the
handbook for future changes and integrating it to other applications such as student
information system and other updates that will come on the future use.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

The student handbook is a book that gives useful information about the college or
university and a student handbook is an important item that they give to let students and
even parents know everything about the information’s we all need to know especially
the students. It covers the grading system, rules and regulations, enrolment
requirements and other facts relevant to the institution or university.

The distribution of the student handbook is done to every new hired faculty and enrolled
students to keep them aware and understand policies, rules and regulations pertaining
to the operation of the College. However, the usual problem with the current method or
traditional method is that they usually forget to bring the handbook; some lost it and
noted that the hard copy handbook is somewhat boring and not interactive.

Likewise, handbook is reprinted every time that there are changes or updates to the
contents, with trees being cut down to produce paper and contributing to our problem in
climate change. Today’s generation or the millennial generation characterized as the
tech. era where almost everything is in digital format.

That’s why I’ve created my own student handbook mobile application called “AMA
Student Handbook Plus”. It has everything you need in a student handbook application
and it’s not just a simple student handbook application because it has some features
that a traditional student handbook doesn’t have like you can log in and register into
your account that will automatically be save on the developer’s database and more it
AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus
Computer Studies Department

has an phone verification so that it can surely let your account be safe by verifying it via
phone authentication. It is called “AMA Student Handbook Plus” Because It’s not just
login and register that you can do and more you can even see or look on to the
upcoming events on your college/ university like exam schedules, important events etc.

The developer will even let you know if the application has an update via push message
notification and you can easily tap it and automatically put you in the direct link of the
update or so called “AMASHPLUS.apk”, so you can update to the latest “AMA Student
Handbook Plus” mobile application.

The rise of mobile application will not just answer the problems encountered in the
current setting but will help the environment as well. The development of technology
applications that previously runs only in desktop computing can now be applied in
mobile through applications compatible in mobile devices such as laptop, digital tablet
with Wi-Fi capabilities or even the use of smart phones that can connect to the internet.

With the aforementioned reasons, the developer conducted a study on the development
of mobile-based student handbook that can be installed on android devices making it
possible for the students and the faculty of an educational institution to browse and read
whenever possible and explore more features and updates on to it. The “AMA Student
Handbook Plus” mobile application is a user friendly with its plain and simple graphical
user interface. Plus all of the Updated Information’s or News at the school will be given
by the developer, like the schedule of exams etc. and other important school
announcement will be updated or given on the App.

PROJECT CONTEXT

As of Today’s society characterized as the electronic era where almost everything is in

digital format is the right time to address this concern. The rise of mobile application will
not just answer the problems encountered in the current setting but will help the
AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus
Computer Studies Department

environment as well and even help students and parents. With “AMA Student Handbook
Plus” mobile application it’ll be easier to access anything you want in a student
handbook plus.

The purpose of this study is to answer the following:

 How can the study further help the student’s or other app users compared to
the existing school ordinary/ traditional handbook?

 How can the system ensure the updates of the “AMA Student Handbook
Plus”application?

 How can the system provide a consolidated report or notifications to the

concerned students or app users through the use of the computer server?

 How can the system store data from the database?

 Can the application secure the registration of the users by a mobile phone
authentication?

 What to Expect on the mobile based “AMA Student Handbook Plus”

Application?

 How can this help our daily dos on the colleges/ universities?

PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION

The “AMA Student Handbook Plus” App aims to help students for the easier all in one
application not like the ordinary student handbook that can be misplaced or be
forgotten. And helps lessen the cutting of our trees and lessen the printing costs that the
traditional student handbook has. The features of the traditional Student handbook are
AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus
Computer Studies Department

featured to this implementation in order to improve the use of the Student handbook.
Each and every student, faculty and also the parents/guardians can use this Student
Mobile Handbook easily than the traditional ones. This also includes other important
downloadable files or events that the traditional student handbook doesn’t even have
and more.

The System is beneficial to the following:

School – this will be beneficial to the university or colleges because it can help them to
not just update the old traditionally simple student handbook but can even create your
own account on your “AMA Student Handbook Plus” mobile application and explore
some feature of it get some important files or events that the students or members
needed. The school does not need to print and make a new student handbook
traditionally.

Students – this will be beneficial to the students so that they would just open and
access this app without losing it unlike that traditional student handbook or even so
costly print the old traditional student handbook. It helps the students to easily
understand info’s or events on what the colleges or universities has by using only this
app.

Members - this will be beneficial to the members because the system aims to help them
to easily know and access the “AMA Student Handbook Plus” mobile application and
other important updated events or things that they needed on university’s or colleges
because it is not just a simple like traditional student handbook app but a much more
new featuring login register etc. on the “AMA Student Handbook Plus” App.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

This study used the Iterative Waterfall Model as the Software Development Life Cycle
and as ill as Descriptive Research method.

Data Gathering

The researcher gathered essential data and study in developing the system in this
phase.

System Design

At this phase, the researcher recognized the features and designs to be used in the
development of the “AMASHPLUS” mobile-based student handbook suitable to the
objectives of the study. The user interface and the basic flow of the system ire designed
in this phase. The client‘s requirements are the bases of the proponents in designing
the system.

The student and the faculty members search for the contents they wanted to read and
the app returns the result for the users to view, read or download. The administrator
manages and updates the contents of the app and uploads it back to the server with a
notification.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The current or traditional version of the handbook is in the form of a book bind one
which is prone to tear, damage and lost. To prevent or minimize the stated dilemmas,
the researcher had come up to an idea to develop an android based student handbook
with the following objectives:

1. To be able to design and develop an android based handbook that is

responsive and will automatically adjust according to the screen resolution of
the student’s device.

2. To convert the hardcopy version of the handbook to android based which will
make it easier for the students to browse and read the content of the
handbook using their android devices.

3. To encourage the students to read their handbook and easily browse it.

4. To develop an application for the students that has an adjustable font size for
easier reading and understanding.
AMA Computer College Santa Cruz Campus
Computer Studies Department

5. To create a user friendly application, with an easy navigation that is available

for download anytime.

6. To provide the students an easy access to their handbook with a search tab
where they can easily navigate the contents of it.

7. To develop not just a student e-handbook but an app that has the ability to
download files and other directories unlike the traditionally handbook that i
used to have.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The scopes of the project are identified with the following:

 Sensor that measures the air quality in that area.

 Sensor that captures the temperature and humidity in that area.

 Sensor that captures the moisture of the soil and indicates if the plant
needs to be watered or not.

The limitations of the project are identified in the following:

 The internet connection needs to be reliable since no readings will be

seen in the application when Wi-Fi is not available.
 .The lack of automation to automatically water the plants when necessary
since monitoring of plants is the main purpose of the product.
 Durability of the device when treated badly may reduce the productivity of
the device.
