CLARA’S CIRCLE
This year’s Keyboard Festival explores the music of Clara Schumann and her contemporaries. Born
200 years ago, Clara was a distinguished pianist and composer whose long life both witnessed
and influenced the fast-changing musical landscape of the 19th century. We play some of her solo
piano music and songs, as well as the works she performed in her career as a concert pianist.
We also tell the stories of her friendships with Chopin, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Liszt, as well as
Clara’s passionate relationship with Robert Schumann.
