Dr. Joy Goodfeeling


"Pleased to be holding still, the application of transocular injections can be, difficult, with a
species possessing of such small eyes."

As long as Dr. Goodfeeling can recall, which is only the past year and a half, it has had an
intense interest in biology, specifically the biological functions of lesser species. During training
to become an emissary to the Earthlings, Dr. Goodfeeling naturally gravitated towards these
fields, quickly learning the esoterica of Earthling medicine, physiology, and associated cultural
behaviors. After graduating from its training, it choose a name that should put others at ease,
Dr. Joy Goodfeeling, but only after discarding Happy Happystein and Pleasure Joy McHappy.

Its first assignment has been to attach itself to a group of Earthlings and assume the role of their
primary physician. This allows Dr. Goodfeeling to explore not just the simple biology of these
creatures, but also to gain an understanding of how that biology responds to stress, as well as
the psychological and cultural factors that intersect with biological processes.

'Tommy' Cshan La-lal


"Sure, I can fix it, yes, yes, but only if you feed me. I'll take scraps if that's all you got, yes, yes."

Tommy, once known to his tribe as Cshan La-Lal (Cshan Makes Stuff A Lot) may be one of the
luckiest Ioites alive. He managed to stow away on one of the rare Earthling ships that are allowed
to land on Io, and once found, his unwitting benefactors took pity on him. It did not take long
before Tommy picked up the basics of Earthling technology and engineering, soon becoming
an indispensable part of the crew. After a brief landing on Mars, his new friends were worried
when Tommy did not return from leave, but pressing matters kept them from conducting more
than a cursory search.

For his part, Tommy simply got distracted by the sights and smells, and did not really understand
that his new tribe would leave without him (though since they did not brand him, he figured they
never intended to keep him anyways).

Fan-jaf-ka
"The wind tells me truths, the beast we seek is over that ridge, but it is not alone."

The flaming beasts came from the sky and attacked it's tribe's grove, and although Fan-jaf-ka
fought bravely, it and it's fellow hunters were captured. Taken into the reaches beyond the skies,
it feared a slow death in the belly of the metal beast.

After many moonless nights the beast was overtaken by another monster, but this one had a
different type of soft-barked strangers who called themselves Rocket Rangers. Freed, but unable
to return to it's people, Fan-jaf-ka has set to wandering the rocket lanes, finding work as a hunter
and scout for various expeditions.

Not all of the bone colored men are bad, just most of them. This is the central understanding that
has guided Brother Gas'il for the past few years. He does not rage against the conquerors from
the skies, for the politics of principalities are none of his concern.

Instead, the good brother focus his attention on the true evils in the world, men and women of
every stripe who are corrupted by power and greed, and use their authority to bring misery and
death to those beneath themselves on the ladder of existence. If these fiends will not listen to
his sermon, Brother Gas'il's hamaxe is ready to press the argument.

"I'm a Ranger, I'm here to help."

Cotter dreamed of joining the cavalry and fighting the good fight, or maybe the Texas Rangers,
he couldn’t decide. After a successful high school football career, Cotter went to meet with a US
Army recruiter. On the way he passed a US Rocket Corps poster, and changed his mind about
the cavalry.

His entrance exams proved him more than qualified, and after only two years of training Cotter
was flying with the Rangers on dangerous missions throughout the solar system. Now, with five
years of service under his belt, Cotter has been promoted to captain and assigned as a ‘Ranger-
at-Large,’ tasked with finding trouble and settling it, permanently.

Her Majesty was once the princess of a minor Martian city-state closely allied with the larger
power of Kostrast. Early last Ebb, a palace coup led by her half-brother deposed Her Majesty,
and she barely escaped with her life, a hand full of loyal servants, a few priceless relics, and
a steamer trunk filled with odds and ends (including the principality's ceremonial sword and
scepter).

She fled to her cousin's domain of Kostrast where she was instrumental in revealing a plot
by radical Orthodox Kastari to depose the pro-Earthling prince in favor of an anti-Earthling
theocracy. This won her some support from her cousin, and has allowed Her Majesty to find
positions for her servants in his court. Now, she must tend to her own needs and see that her
star once more rises to shine.

Freedom did not suit Butch well, at least at first. For two weeks he still reported at the docks
to unload ships and haul goods from warehouse to wharf. Eventually it dawned on him that he
did not need to go, plus he was getting hungry. Falling in with a rather deceitful Pilthuri, Butch
found himself as the leg breaker for Emancipation's latest up and coming crime lord. This suited
Butch's temperament, he liked regular work, found that didn’t mind roughing folks up, and had
plenty of time to learn more about freedom and Earthling culture. In time, the Pilthuri was
forced out by Earthling crime lords, and Butch was actually offered a job, the first time anyone
had ever asked what he wanted. For several months he worked for Big Palo, acquiring a bizarre
accent, soaking in Earthling crime movies and cheap novels, and buying his very own zoot-suit.
Now, Bitch is ready to strike out on his own and see Mars, and maybe even the rest of the solar
system while he is at it.

Zäla was the courtesan slave of a high-ranking Silthuri in the court of Yatharith before the
revolution. When the fighting started, her master conceived of the idea of killing all the Julandri
in the palace in order to ensure the prince's safety. Acting quickly, Zäla attacked her master and
strangled him with one of her silken scarves. Next, she led her siblings out of the palace and to
safety, eventually being caught up in the fighting in the streets.

After the revolution, Zäla stood for election in her district, using her social skills and beauty to
win a large segment of the Julandri vote (having killed her master and saved so many others also
helped). As a member of the governing council of Emancipation, she has many duties, but also
the freedom to pursue whatever adventures might help her people.

"The tracks lead that way, into the Great Eastern Unknown. Bring some water, let's go."

Viper, his real name is Chasatunabt (which is unpronounceable by most Earthlings), is a guide
for hire in the Kalond Canal Valley. He left his tribe to see the wonders of the Earthlings and has
never looked back, though he does return from time to time with goods, usually weapons, he
has purchased with the money he makes leading Earthling expeditions into the wilds of Mars.
Like all Chanari, he is afflicted with a wandering soul and a great disdain for other's laws, and
this may eventually lead (or force) him off his homeworld and onwards to other planets.

"For you, fifty of your Earthling dollars. Though I am willing to, how do you say, swap?"

Taua'd M'll was a regular Pilthuri trader with a pair of husbands and six children. Her husbands
took care of the long distance trading, and she negotiated the distribution of goods through the
local Pilthuri networks (and a little under the table stuff on the side). When war came to the Kalond
Valley, she first found her husbands killed in the conflict, and then her prince overthrown by aliens
and replaced by their own administration. Lesser Pilthuri would have starved in the wake of all this
disruption, but Taua'd persevered, adapting quickly to the new free market and even finding sources
and customers for those things that the new Earthling rulers declared illegal. This has allowed her
to not only feed her children and maintain a higher standard of living then she did before the war,
but to excel as one of the leaders of the new economy. She has even managed to secure a rocket
truck that her contacts in the American colonial administration 'lost.' She plans to use this and her
capital to finance an expedition into the wastes in order to locate some Ancient artifacts, and then
sell them to the highest bidder.

Khatan Mavai'lk
"The room is safe, and if it is not, I will die either to save you or shortly before you."

Khatan served nobly in his prince's guard for three years, but while on detached duty to escort
his master's new bride to the capital, the prince was killed in a palace coup. The survivors of
Khatan's legion either died in vain attempts at revenge or swore allegiance to the new prince. For
Khatan, this choice between foolish death or servitude to his master's murder was inconceivable,
another way had to be found.

Swearing vengeance at some future point, the young Maduri took his skills and arms to Earthling
held lands and found work as a bodyguard and mercenary. One day, with the aid of alien money
and weapons, he will return to his home principality and lay the head of the traitors on his late
master's sarcophagus.

Stachal left her home four years ago to wander amongst the stars, certain that after a year or
two as a harvititor she would return to a hero's welcome. Instead, she has become one of the
Lost, choosing to wander the Solar System forever, never returning to her home concordant and
thus never becoming an 'a dult' in the eyes of her fellow Venusians. This is not such a burden for
Stachal, for she has seen things no other Venusian has, and hopes to one day be remembered as
the Venusian that has wandered the farthest.

Maltha was one of the few Talandri who questioned why they did things. His constant seeking
for reasons behind the ritualized processes that ran his city's power plant got him into trouble
with not just his superiors, but the Kastari caste as well. Being a bright fellow and a long term
planner, he worked for three and a half years to gather the resources and knowledge needed
to escape, and one night crept out of the workshop and fled across the desert. Bartering his
skills and knowledge to Chanari tribesmen and Earthling explorers, Matlha eventually made it
to Emancipation where he found a place as an apprentice in one of the free Talandri shops. Now
that he has been brought up to speed on Earthling technology, he is ready to strike out on his
own as a freelance mechanic and engineer.
