On July 1 2019, the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas also known as The BSP

seminar was held. Our class, ABM Nadal was scheduled in the afternoon. We had a general
assembly by that day so the day went by quick as thought. That day felt special in a way that it
will teach me many things and how things are suppose to be in my strand, Accountancy and
Business Management. After the day slowly finishes, the afternoon finally came. So the
seminars have begun. As we went in there were two unfamiliar people, I assumed that they
were the speakers since they did not have any ID that were owned by the school. The first
speaker was a woman and she introduced herself. The first speaker’s name was Ms. Noelle
Angela Pamaran. She works in Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas and she came here in ADZU to
teach us about financial literacy on savings and budgeting. She said that we need to manage
our finances for that our future will be stable. Ms. Angela talked about the five different
spenders. She also told us how to save money and the options for saving. After she was done
the other speaker went in front of the class. He was a man and his name was Mr. Hermogenes
Buenaflor, Jr. Sir. Buenaflor talked about the disadvantages of not saving and not paying
debts. He talked about some tips how to get your financial freedom and how many money we
waste by buying stuff that we want but we do not need. He also talked about the financial
mistakes we Filipinos do.
As Ms. Angela talked about the 5 different spenders, which were the Big
Spender, Penny Picker, Thrill Seeker, Security Craver, and the Idealist. The Big spender
spends a lot of money and has no problem of wasting it. The Penny picker is the opposite as
he sees the wants as not as important. The thrill seeker seeks thrills as it makes risky financial
decisions. The security craver is scared of wasting money and lastly the Idealist thinks that
money is a sin and must be removed from the world and it is the root of all evil. As Ms. Angela
talked about it I can see myself in many situations as the spenders, there were times I would
spend without thinking. There were times I would think about risking my money for something
and so forth. It depends on the situation I am in. What I learned from it is that, despite the
spending you still have to safe some for later for it will or might save you in the near future.
After I heard Ms. Angela’s story, I thought about my savings a lot and I thought that I need to
lessen my spending. I thought about practicing discipline and patience and thanks to Metro
Bank I would be able to save money with no worries. Mr. Buenaflor’s teachings made me
realize a lot of things about my money. Mr. Buenaflor talked about financial freedom and the
mistakes we Filipinos make and how much we spend on our wants. It made me realize that
needs are better than wants and we should think this through first before buying something.
The financial mistakes hit me hard as it made a lot of points that struck to me, specially the
manyana habit. I learned that we should save more and we should think about buying
something first before buying.
The BSP Seminar or The Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas Seminar was made to
educate us about money and finance and how we are suppose to save and what was the
mistakes we make while looking for or buying for something. The Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas
taught as that our future will be there soon and we must think twice when doing something
about money and they taught us that savings can actually save lives and it can save
someone’s life. Our speakers Ms. Noelle Angela Pamaran and Mr. Hermogenes Buenaflor Jr.
made us realize that we should value our money because without our money we would not be
able to be eating right now or enjoying our lives. Though money can be the root of all evil,
sometimes money can save and help people that are in need. There were so many things that
our speakers told us and made us remember and it made us realize so many stuff and it made
us wonder what would happen if we did not have any savings by our side. It made me wonder
what would happen to me if they did not tell me about this and what would happen if I remain
clueless about my own money. Therefore, we should save our money and think twice before
buying anything, is it a need or a want? We should learn discipline and we should have options
for our money, like banks and all. Think wisely because the money you waste on wants might
be the money you can use for the future. Saving money can or might help you so save now
and spend wisely.
The Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas or BSP Seminar was announced to students for us to
learn how it really is in the real world. The speakers Ms. Pamaran and Sir. Buenaflor taught us
that managing money can help you in the near future. They talked about the different types of
spenders, which were: Big Spenders, Penny Pincher, Thrill Seeker, Security Craver and the
Idealist. They talked about how to save, for example, to practice discipline, like when you see
something you like you have to think first if you really need it or not. They also talked about
how we can start small with saving. They gave us options for saving like banks, piggy banks
and small coin banks. They gave us some tips on how to have a financial freedom, like pay our
debts or getting an insurance and such. They talked about the daily nonessential products we
spend on and how much money we lose every year by buying it. They also talked about the
mistakes us Filipino make for example the “manyana” habit or the “utak pyesta” and so on.
They taught us so many things that made us realize our spending and how we should save
more for the near future.
We students still have a lot more stages to go before we finally become what we
dream to be. We take little steps slowly and we make mistakes for us to learn and reflect as we
go on. As a student from the ABM track or the Accountancy, Business and Management, I can
apply the lessons I’ve learned from the seminar by doing the things that they talked about like
how we can take small steps on saving for example, 5 pesos everyday and we can also get
bank accounts for us to deposit money. We can also learn from our past mistakes or
experiences that involves around money. Buying a piggy bank for your savings and slowly
increasing the amount you are saving every year, for example last year you saved 5 pesos per
day then the next year you’ll be saving ten pesos per day. We should also discipline ourselves
when it comes to shopping. You should have a list and you should be thinking of your needs
for because your shopping will be useless if you did not buy your needs, instead you took
priority of you wants. As a student, I can use the knowledge I learned from them by simply
doing what they said about saving and learning as the process goes.
The BSP or The Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas Seminar made an impact to us ABM
students, as it taught us the basics of savings and defining what financial literacy on savings and
budgeting. It taught us the mistakes us Filipinos make when spending money. We learned that
there are 5 different types of spender and how they defined. Ms. Noelle Angela Pamaran gave us
knowledge on how we can improve ourselves and she gaves us some tips and tricks on how we
can save. Mr. Hermogenes Buenaflor, Jr. taught us the mistakes we should be aware of and he
taught us on how to be financially being free. The speakers were clear on how they educate us
they we students were able to realize and reflect our spending. Though it was a short time we
were able to gain a lot of knowledge from it. Figuring out how we could save was easy as they
gave us tips and they direct us that even small steps can redeem our savings. Therefore, I, as
a student from the ABM track should apply this to myself and I should reflect on all the
mistakes that I realized as we went and listened to the seminar.
