Note: An accessory materials fee of $5.00 will be collected by the instructor at the first class.
Materials & Supply List
Drawing Pencils: Leads HB, 2H, and B; sharpener; kneaded eraser
Tracing Paper & Sketching Paper: ~11" x 14" or similar
Water Containers: two
Paper Towels: (VIVA brand is good for absorption.)
Palette: of choice
Watercolor Paper: 140# HOTPRESS (or 300# hotpress if you prefer). You will need: four to six (9 x
12" or similar) pieces for painting exercises plus one piece for final class painting. Arches and Fabriano
brands are professional watercolor papers available locally.
Paint Brushes: Watercolor brushes "round"; sizes #2 & #6 or similar; preferably Kolinsky sable.
Here are some good options:
1. Raphael Series #8404 round; (I recommend sizes #2, #4 for this one.) Excellent brush that I use!
(Order at Italian Art Store, below. Or, some sizes available locally at *KOZO.)
2. Escoola Series #1212, round. (at Guiry's)
3. Winsor & Newton Series #7, round. (at Guiry's & Meininger's)
4. Robert Simmons, Sapphire #S85, round. Less expensive substitute for Kolinsky sable
(at Guiry's & Meininger's)
Optional Materials: These materials will be sampled briefly in exercises. I will be bringing these
materials to share so that you will have the opportunity to try them. Or if you have them bring them.
– liquid masking fluid (removable), Incredible White Mask Liquid Frisket (I use) OR Winsor & Newton
Art Masking Fluid for Water Color
– quill pen with nibs: Speedball Hunt Pen Holder Type B fits for the following nibs: Hunt pen nib # 512
(bowl pointed) or #513 (EF Globe), or similar nibs with pen holder .
