Vocabulary

1. buckboard - a horse drawn wagon with seats for people in front and a large
open back for hauling supplies
2. conductor - an official in charge of the running of a train who also collects
fares.
3. depot - a railroad or bus station where they arrive and depart.
4. livery stable - a stable where horses are fed and groomed for a fixed
charged, and where horses and wagons are rented.
5. platform - a raised level surface on which passengers stand when boarding or
deboarding the train.
6. potbelly stove - a small, round, wood-burning stove
7. stationmaster - an official in charge of a railroad station who often sells
tickets.
8. surveyor - a person who makes a map or plan by measuring the distances
and coordinates of a section of land.
9. trestle - a supporting bridge made of an open-braced framework of
crossbeams.
10. tunnel blasters - railroad workers who place the nitroglycerin or other
explosives in position and them to blast a hole through the solid rock of a
mountain.
