MY REFLECTION PAPER

IN “NOLI ME
TANGERE” PLAY

READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

CHRISTINE JOY D. MORALES

1ST Year BSA

VIRGINIA ROMERO
Professor

JUAN CRISOSTOMO IBARRA

1.) What is the importance of your character in the story?

As Ibarra the importance of my character is that I must show what is the attitude/character of being a
Filipino-Spanish and the only descendant of the wealthy Spaniards.

2.) How did you interpret your role?

Considering my role is that I was born and grew up in the Philippines, but during my adolescence, 1
spent seven years studying in Europe. Those years prevented me from knowing what was happening in
my country. When I returned to the Philippines, I found my father had died and the corpse was
(supposedly) moved to a Chinese cemetery (but the body ended up in a river). I heard tales of how
helpful and kind my father had been and decided to honor the memory of my father by doing as my
father did and also being boyfriend of Maria Clara. I interpret my role as being a wise man who is willing
to do anything just to know the truth.

3.) What are the experiences you have gained from this play?

I experienced forgetting my exact line and also there is a moment when I did my role out of my
expectations.

4.) My overall comment about the play.

I think I did it well. It's good.

Padre Dámaso
1.) What is the importance of your character in the story?

To show being the former curate of the parish church of San Diego. The role of being curate for almost
twenty years before I was replaced by the much younger Padre Salvi.
2.) How did you interpret your role?

I interpret my role being a snobbish, ruthless and judgemental extrovert. I does not control my words
when speaking and does not care if the person I am talking to will feel embarassed or remorseful. I
always berates or criticizes other people around me-- especially Ibarra. But I was known to be friendly
with the Ibarra family, so much that Crisóstomo was surprised by what the former curate had done to
Don Rafaél.

3.) What are the experiences you have gained from this play?

I experienced to lead our group and to adjust in my role.

4.) My overall comment about the play.

I hope youth today will cherish the essence of the play considering the book of our own hero --NOLI ME
TANGERE(Touch me not).

Kapitán Tiago

1.) What is the importance of your character in the story?

To show a kind of Filipino that did not attain any formal education. Where I became a servant of a
Dominican priest, but blessed with a daughter who shared the same features as Padre Dámaso, named
Maria Clara.

2.) How did you interpret your role?

I showed that I am close to the priests because I had given numerous contributions of money during
ecclesiastical donations and always invited the parish curate to every formal dinner. I was also
entrenched with the government because I always supported tax increases whenever the local officials
wished. That was the reason I obtained the title of gobernadorcillo, the highest government position
that a non-Spaniard could have in the Philippines.

3.) What are the experiences you have gained from this play?

I experienced being out of order like how I deliver my script. But I found it very smooth because it's like
all the scene that I am part of was very familiar.
4.) My overall comment about the play.

I'm happy for what our group presented, may this give all of you a lesson.

Eliás
1.) What is the importance of your character in the story?

To play being the one who came from the family which the Ibarra clan had oppressed for generations.

2.) How did you interpret your role?

Despite that Ibarra's family subjugated Elias family, he is entirely indebted towards him. Furthermore,
Ibarra, who in turn, saved Elías' life when they tried to kill a crocodile. I interpret my role being helpful in
the scene when I helped Ibarra before Ibarra got arrested by burning his house. Also being supportive
when Elias and Ibarra continued supporting each other until Elias sacrificed himself to help him one last
time. He was shot by the guards.

3.) What are the experiences you have gained from this play?

I experienced trying to put my role into reality because being Elias is quiet a big role so I do my very best
to make it nice.

4.) My overall comment about the play.

Everybody exerted their efforts so I think the play results being fruitful.

Sisa
1.) What is the importance of your character in the story?

To depicts how Filipino mothers love their children unquestionably.

2.) How did you interpret your role?

I interpret my role being lunatic as I continues to find my children.

3.) What are the experiences you have gained from this play?

I experienced thinking as much as what is being lunatic. To adjust into being a crazy mother even though
Im in theater since I was in my childhood.

4.) My overall comment about the play.

I think the play was good and all I can say is I do it for my very best. I hope this will serve as an
instrument and wake up call to many Filipinos specially to the UNCEAN and outsider who watch the play.

My over all comment in the play

For me the play was good. It is also quiet entertaining for me because of the style presented in the play.
Every casts do their role well that’s why the result of the play was perfect. It’s like I’m watching in the TV
because all casts perform professionally. I hope there is another play. It is my privilege to watch this kind
of our very own novel “NOLI ME TAMERE”. It serves as an instrument to the author of the novel Dr. Jose
Rizal. May this also serve as an awakening to all youth who watched the play. All I can say is the play was
great!
