The Principal

Albuquerque School District

New Mexico, USA

Sir/Ma’am:

Greetings!

I believe in the inclusive education, which entails that no learners should be left behind.

I have been teaching for 10 years now for Public School in the Philippines and in that period of time I
handled learners of different styles and of different behavior toward learning. Before I became a
Secondary public school teacher I was a private tutor in reading that is paid minimally by parents from
public school students. I teach reading for kindergarten and graders who cannot read.

Since they are beginners, I used ABAKADA, the famous reading materials in the Philippines as my tool to
assess them how far they go in reading. After assessing them, I used reading materials in the mother
tongue for non-reader, and English reading materials for struggling readers. Using this technique, my
young learners slowly learn to read and they were accepted to the next level of their grade. I also
noticed that teaching reading is not only about all the approaches and techniques in teaching but above
all it is about the heart of the teacher for the learners; patience and understanding them are the keys in
making them read.

When I became part of the public school and become the teacher of English for Junior High School
particularly English Grade 8, it saddened me to learn that, there are still students who cannot read. In
this case, I used the Mc Call Crab Test to assess their comprehension. To those who did not meet the
expectation, I gave them remedial class for reading wherein they will be given short passages to read
and questions to answer. Scores for the day will be recorded and monitored for the next session.

In my classes I always give them special attention, I see to it that they could follow with the lessons. I
devise lesson plans that could cater my students depending on their learning abilities. I also monitor
their performance and seek their parent’s cooperation. After grading period their performances slowly
gets high and this gives me the idea that my students who are struggling readers improve a lot.

In the 10th year of my teaching I transferred to Senior High School and teach Grade 11- 12 students.
Here, I am the advisor for school paper, and trains students to write for the school. I conduct seminars
for the future news writers and publish school paper annually.
Hence, I humbly apply to your school district as an English teacher, with the hope that I could contribute
for the success stories of learning of your students.
