The Mentality of youth in Indonesia face of

the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Honorable judges
Respectful audience
And everyone here today

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb

First of all i’d like to thank the Almighty God it is because of Him we are all able to attend
this English Contest today. Secondly may Shalawat and Salam always be delievered to our
prophet Muhammad SAW. Who had brought us from the darkness to this bright modern era
that we live in today. Last but not least i’d like to thank the judges for giving me a very
special opportunity to give my opinion and speak up in this contest.

Smart People!

My name is Farida Gustiani Hadi Putri. I’m 18 years old. I come from Serba Bakti High
School. Its not far from here, right?

Today, my purpose for standing here is to give my opinion about how young people like us
face of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Before that, I want to ask to the audience. Have you ever wondered why Facebook can
recognize your face and tag you in a friend’s photo automatically? Or why GPS can know the
fastest and the closest distance to your destination? Have you ever?

Yes! There is product of 4.0.

4.0 is a fancy term for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. And what the Fourth Industrial
Revolution it is?
As we know, the First Industrial Revolution used water and steam power to mechanize
production. The Second used electric power to create mass production. The Third used
electronics and information technology to automate production. Now a Fourth Industrial
Revolution is building on the Third, the digital revolution that has been occuring since the
middle of the last century.

The Fouth Industrial Revolution is a way of describing the blurring of boundaries between a
physical, digital and biological world. Its a fusion of advances in Artificial Intellegence (AI),
Robotics, IoT, 3D Printing, Sensor and other technologies.

Indonesia entered the 4.0 era since 2011. This became a big leap for the Industrial Sector,
where information and communication technology was full used. Of course not only in the
production process, but also for the implementation of new digital-based business models to
achieve high-efficiency and good-quality products. And now, we have Gojek and also
Gofood for examples.

Based on the 2017 Global Competitiveness Report, Indonesia’s competitivenes position is

ranked 36th out of 100 countries. Of course this rank is not enough and must be improved.
Because International competition is very tight from year to year.

For your information, one of the things that is very important in supporting that competition
is good human resources. Therefore, the initial step for us as young people is to improve the
quality of ourselves. How do we do that? In my opinion. There are two things can be done.

First, make your interaction with your teacher more intensively. Nadiem Makarim an
Indonesian businessman who currently serves as Minister of Education and Culture of
Indonesia said “Technology is just tools. Not everything. The quality of learning in the class,
and the interaction between teacher and students is the essence.” As we know, learning is not
only possible in the class. But the quality of learning in the class and the interaction of
teacher and students greatly affects the quality of students in the future. Students who are
active and often interact with teacher will be more brave and confident.

Second step, we need to build ourselves to become a better person. Like we have to be an
independent personal and never give up in any situation. In addition we need to have the soul
of nasionalism and strenghthed by our faith to the Almighty. This is very important, because
if the intellegence technology is not balance with the faith to the God that will be mistaken.
Human being will use the technology for all the things that they want to be or to do. And of
course its very dangerous.

Young people!

We are sure if we have all those mentality we can face of and maybe we can even become an
important part of the revolution. Beside that we can filter the revolution that comes to us
rushly. We can take the goodness and refuse the badness of this revolution.

Therefore, the point is we are as youth of Indonesia must have an active, tough, faithful and
flexible mentality to deal with the Fourth Industrial Revolution easily.

John Phillips said “ Technology makes things faster and more cost-effective. But its not
perfect. It requires you to be as flexible as you can be.”

Finally.

Ladies and Gentlemean!

That’s all for my speech. I hope we’ve all learned something new from it and enjoyed it.

Wassalamualaikum Wr.Wb
