PERFORMANCE TASK IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

STATISTICAL MIN-RESEARCH
I. Title: Sampling Distribution of the Sample and Estimation of Parameter
II. Objectives:
a. To learn and appreciate the principle of Normal distribution, Sampling Distribution and Estimation of
Parameter.
b. To apply in actual settings and conditions.
c. To formulate and calculate the distribution of certain phenomena or events and to discover the statistical
properties of the particular event in terms of the Mean, Variance and Standard Deviation.
III.

D. Compute for the average or mean, 𝐱̅ , variance and the standard deviation (Calculator or Microsoft
excel is allowed)
Ex. x̅ = 82.24 and 𝜎𝑥 = 5.3669

E. Make at least 20 random samples of the variables taken three at a time and compute for the
average or mean for each sample.
Ex.

H. Compute for the Average, Variance and Standard Deviation (Take Note: Sample Data and Not
Population Data)
𝑥̅ (Mean) = 82.65, 𝜎𝑥̅ (Sample Standard Deviation) = 6.2683
𝑁𝑜𝑡𝑒. These are approximate values
I. Answer the following questions.
1. Describe the result of your chart in D?
2. Describe the result of your chart in H?
3. Compare the results in E and I, do the results reflect the characteristics of each other?
4. What do you think is the source of difference or error on the results of E and I?
5. Determine the point estimate and the confidence interval.
6. Reflect on your estimation. Are you confident about it. To what extent are you confident? Express
your confidence as percentage.
