This video talks about how technology is changing the world around us. Even though technology
was meant to bring people together, it is actually tearing people apart because of how “controlling”
technology can be. The world is in dire need of pulling away from technology.

Addiction to Technology is Ruining Lives - Simon Sinek on Inside Quest

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL8AsaEJDdo

Teenagers get a taste of dopamine, a “chemical” that gives temporary relief, when they need
something to make them feel good. When teenagers deal with stress, they go to their technology or
social media to help them deal with it. Because they do this so often, it becomes a routine, which
eventually leads them to being addicted to their technology or social media. As a result of this addiction,
many teenagers do not have a deep meaningful relationship with their peers, since they rely on their
technology or social media too much. The addiction to technology is destroying many relationships and
lives.

The Teenage Brain and Addiction

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTy1_aQV9pA

Addiction is a form of learning that teenagers are at risk of having. It is easier for a teenager to
be addicted to something than it is for an adult. Unfortunately, this can lead to a teenager having a
lifelong addiction problem, which isn’t good. This is why many teenagers are addicted to things like
alcohol or technology.

The smartphone effect is when you are addicted to your technology or social media. The goal of
technology designers is to keep people’s attention on their screen, which is how they make their money.
Technology and social media give people what they want when they are lonely, restless, or just need
attention. This makes people turn to their phone whenever they want to be satisfied, which is addiction.
Overall, this helps technology designers make the money they want to make.

The teenage brain: Why some years are (a lot) crazier than others | Robert Sapolsky
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZDmmaElY2Y
The frontal lobe of every human is the last part of the brain that is fully developed. This means
that the frontal lobe is the part of the brain that is most influenced by the environment around us. The
older you are, the more developed your frontal lobe is, which is why elderly people act differently than
an adolescent or teenager. An elderly person is resistant to someone else’s novelty, whereas an
adolescent or teenager turn to someone or something to help them cope with things like stress.
Adolescents are constantly trying to change things around them to make themselves comfortable in their
environment. On the other hand, an elderly person already has the knowledge that some things can’t be
changed, so they find ways to accommodate certain things.

As a teenager, I find myself on my phone a lot. When I’m bored, I go to my phone to be on social
media or play games. When I’m out having fun with my family/friends, I take out my phone to record or
take pictures of what is going on around me. Even when I’m hanging out with my friends, my friends and
I don’t really have conversations because we are all on our phones. I think that I should consider making
a change to how much time I spend on my phone because it can lead to addiction. Being on my phone at
all times will eventually drift me away from my friends and family. It will also make me lack certain skills
that I need in my life such as communication skills. Reducing the amount of time that I spend on my
phone will help me to use my time doing something that will benefit me in the long run.
