Objective of the study

This study tries to determine the assessment level on library services of the college library in Pilgrim Christian College.

It specifically seeks to answer the following problems:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1. Age
1.1 Gender
1.2 Year level
1.3 Course
1.4 Religious Affiliation

2. What is the degree of assessing on the college library services considering the following:

2. On number of computers
2.1 On conclusiveness of the area
2.2 On references of materials availability
2.3 On personnel services
2.4 On tables and chairs
2.5 On photo copier machine

Significance of the study

This study brought to bear the services found in the library and the services available. It is hoped that results of the study
will help to improve service delivery to the students of Pilgrim Christian College. In addition, the study adds to existing literature
students information behavior patterns and information needs. The study therefore focuses on how students interact with both
manual and computer based systems. It is also investigated which system they prefer using and the motivation to select one
system to the other.
School Administration. This study will help them to support among the college students of Pilgrim Christian College on
how to utilize the services in the library.

The Teachers. The result of this study will help among the college students in Pilgrim Christian College to improve and
widen their knowledge and develop their studying skills. Students will be conscious of the importance in using the library and be
able to learn more.

The library personnel. It will help them to improve their abilities to serve and accommodate the library goers by giving
them proper assistance and knowledge about the importance of the usage of the library.

The students. This study will help them become successful because the library provide services that help them in teaching,
research and learning.
Methodology

As we started doing our research we presented an approval letter that was address to the Officer in charge - Dean of the
College of Business and Accountancy, and then the letter was of consent followed by a letter of participation for the respondents
and the survey questionnaire to the respondents. After they fill it up, the respondents return it once they are done.

The study involve a questionnaire. Data was collected among the college students of Pilgrim Christian College. The sources
include textbooks, journals, magazines and the internet. The researcher distributed questionnaires to respondents personally .
The questionnaires was divided into two parts. Part 1 was on demographic profile which includes age, gender, year level, course,
religious affiliation and number of personnel. Part 2 was on library services which includes the number of computers, the
conclusiveness of the area, references of materials availability, personnel services, tables and chairs and photocopier machine.

RANGE OF INTERVAL

In order to arrive at the interpretation of the weighted mean result, the range with the respective verbal interpretation
given below is used:

ALWAYS 3.93 - 5.0

MOST OF THE TIME 2.95 - 3.92
SOMETIMES 1.97 - 2.94
RARELY/SELDOM .99 - 1.96
NEVER 0 - .98

Statement of the problem

According to the Pilgrim Christian College annual report, the mission of the school is to meet the needs of individuals and
society through excellence in teaching, learning, research and service provision in order to sustain human development and
culture of peace. The objectives of the institution are to support teaching, learning and research activities of the parent
institution, through systematic acquisition, and organization of all forms and information in fields pertinent to the goals of the
parent institution and make such resources available to the users engage in knowledge creation.

In order to support the institution, the school library mandated to provide acceptable information resources to its users
and create an environment that is conducive to sustain the school’s core business. To accomplish its mandate, the library thus
provide a variety of information, resources such as: books, reference sources, research reports and periodicals.

Many library systems are operated manually by group of people. In such situations many people involved in the process of
managing the library such a way that to keep records regarding the books and students (borrowers), check the books manually,
keep records on issued books etc. These things have to be carried out manually and if the library is large in content handling is
also a problem. On the other hand keeping large amount of maintenance workers may cost a lot and it will not be efficient for a
library. Manual record keeping is also not a reliable method as people tend to forget things. On the borrower’s point of view, in
manual system borrower can’t find a book exactly at once as they are not ordered well. Sometimes user might be searching for a
book that is not available in the library in such situations people get annoyed or depressed. And therefore there should be a
reliable way to manage the library system.

Scope and limitation

The impact of technology has greatly expanded the scope and capacity of the average library. This is an on-going and
developing relationship as the computer’s full capabilities are gradually explored and applied to the library.
Computers have radically changed the way people learn and communicate with each other, as well as the library itself.
The library differs little from other institutions and firms in the impact of computing technology on them. Changes are in
the almost unlimited tracking of the availability of books: whether a book has been issued or not is the work of moments, where
before it would have entailed a long search through a card index.
The availability of learning resources has been massively expanded through access to the internet, again facilitated by the
use of computer technology.
Without computers, as some libraries are, all of them are dependent on paper work. When compared to computerized
systems, data backup and data retrieval systems are inefficient and labor intensive.
Users of a paper based system become almost who reliant on the librarians, for all levels of service, whether they are
inquiries about existing books, inter-library loans, or the availability of books. There is additionally no real involvement of a user
in the entire process.
Researching which new books are required by users becomes very difficult, and agian, labor intensive. Librarians must be
consulted directly to find out the availability of a book since it may already be issued to some other library user.
Furthermore, acquiring hard date on user trends and interests within the library again becomes very hard with a paper
based system. Forms will need to be designed, printed off and handed out. This is a kind of work that an online, library based
survey would improve on hugely.

Conclusion

Based from the research conducted , it has been evident that library services has been partially replaced by the internet
sites as references and sources of information. Library used has decreased for some time because information are readily
available at hand by just simply browsing the internet sites. However, library use is still considered as one of the most reliable
ways to gather data and information.
Recommendation

Based from the findings, we recommend the following:

1. Make activities that are related to library services
2. Conduct symposium to encourage students to use library as source of research data and information
3. Create a mini-library in every classroom.
