I. OBJECTIVES (LAYUNIN)
A. Content Standards (Pamantayang Pangnilalaman) The learner demonstrates understanding of the concept of
simple equations.
B. Performance Standards (Pamantayan sa Pagganap) The learner is able to use different problem solving
strategies.
C. Learning Competencies (Mga Kasanayan sa Pagkatuto) The learner uses different strategies (looking for a pattern,
working backwards, etc.) to solve for the unknown in simple
equations involving one or more operations on whole
numbers and fractions. M5AL-IIIf14

Review:
The teacher will review about numerical expression and
numerical equation.
Numerical expression is just a numbers with one or
more operation symbols while numerical equation has an
equal “=” sign and the two sides are equal.
3+5 Numerical Expression
3+5=8 Numerical Equation
B. Establishing purpose for the Lesson (Paghahabi sa
layunin ng aralin) Can you identify which of the following are equations?
x+y 4p - 4 a-1=9
2x + 2 = 10 x - 10
4d - 8 = -2d 3/4 j - k
1/3 + n = 2/3
w+2–2=5–2
w=3
Solution:
a –1=9
a–1+1=9+1
a + 0 = 10
a = 10
Check:
a–1=9
10 – 1 = 9
9=9
Example 2: 1 / 2 x = 6
In this case, we need to multiply both sides of the equation
by 2 (which is the reciprocal of ½) to get the value of x.
2 (1 / 2 n) = 6 (2)
n=1
F. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills.
(Pagtatalakay ng bagong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong Problem Solving:
kasanayan #2)
A number is increased by 5 is equal to 10. What is the
number?
x + 5 = 10
x + 5 – 5 = 10 – 5
x=5
Check: Substitute x = 5 in the equation.
x + 5 = 10
5 + 5 = 10
10 = 10
Let’s try this:
Problem: The regular price of a necklace was reduced by
P10.00 for the necklace. Jeline paid P120.00 for the
necklace. What was the regular price? Solve it.
G. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assesment 3
(Paglinang sa Kabihasaan Tungo sa Formative Assesment Okay class, answer the following question that I will be
3)
given.
1. x + 4 = 10
2. y + 7 = 9
3. a – 5 = 13
4. 3x = 12
5. 1 / 2p = 8
Problem 1:
Michael is 4 times as old as Karen. Michael is 8.
Problem 2:
A new student enters a class and the class now has
25 students.
Problem 3:
Joanne thinks of a number then subtracts 5 and the
answer is 10.
What is a variable?
What is a constant?
1. r + 6 =8
2. 12 = p + 5
3. 3e = 27
4. 60 = 6b
5. 5 / 8y = 9
