For those of us who write book reviews (or plan to do so or actually read
them!), check out this brilliant review by a fierce Chicana writer, Myriam
Gurba, exposing (without compromise or apologies) the racist publishing
industry at the elite level, where Latinas/os in general and Mexicans
in particular--my clan--continue to be depicted as savages, etc., by
white authors and other self-hating brown writers.
Check out related interviews by Gurba and other Latina/o writers and
advocates for social justice among the white-dominated publishing
industry...

¡Viva Gurba!
Cordially,
Álvaro
P.S. If I, like the author of American Dirt, get a six-figure payday for
my forthcoming book on Mexican immigrants and their social networks in
the informal economy, I might "temper" my criticism towards the
elite publishing industry. If I must, I'll change the topic of my yet-to-be-
published book to Irish immigrants, since, I, too, must have a relative of
Irish origin somewhere in my genealogy. I think they helped my people against
the American imperialist invasion of Mexico during the mid-1800s? There's the
link!
