CHAPTER III

Research Methodology and Procedure

This chapter presents the research methodology of the study which
includes research design, respondents of the study, instruments used,
data gathering procedure and statistical treatment of data.
Research Design
The researchers implemented the simple descriptive design. This
design used survey questionnaires which were distributed to selected
Grade 10 students of Rizal High School in order for the researchers to
attain the main objective of this study which is to determine the effects
of early romantic relationship on the students’ academic
performances. This study tried to analyze, describe and interpret the
status of the respondents. This design investigated the relationship of
the two variables which is romantic relationship and academic
performance which involves time management, levels of motivation
and anxiety.
Population and Sample
The study was conducted at the Rizal High School during the 3 rd
Grading Period, school year 2018-2019 at Caniogan, Pasig City.
There were 50 respondents who took part in the study.
The researchers used pure random sampling. This type of
sampling is one which everyone in the population of the inquiry has an
equal chance of being selected to be included in the sample. This is
also called the lottery or raffle type of sampling. This may be used if
the population has no differentiated levels, sections, or classes.
Instrument
The researchers used survey questionnaire. It helped them to
gather informations and answers to the statement of the problem.
Survey questionnaire is the easiest way for us to collect informations
about our topic “Impact of Having an Early Romantic Relationship in
Academic Performance”. The questionnaires was validated by the
professionals and was given to random Grade 10 students of Rizal
High School.
Validation Procedure
First, we conducted a pre-survey and tallied their answers. We
considered the most frequent answers. We ask a professional teacher
to validate our questions for our final survey.
Data Gathering Procedure
The gathering of data for this study exploit a self-administered
descriptive questionnaire because it simply minimize our time and
effort. We distributed the survey questionnaire to the random
respondents to provide the necessary data needed in the study.
Data Processing Procedure
After we gathered the needed data, we; the researchers will group
the responses according to the sub-problems of the study.
Statistical Treatment of Data
For the simple interpretation, data that will be collected will be
converted to percentage and will be presented in graphical and tabular
forms. To determine the percentage of the students that has
different/similar answers, we are going to divide the frequency of
responses by the total number of respondents and multiplying the
quotient by 100, the percentage was determined.
Formula
P= F/N x 100
Where:
P = Percentage
F = Frequency
N = No. of Respondents
