IMPORTANT POINTS

In order to be successful in this examination; candidates should be able to:

1. identify the different units of storage based on size, symbol, approximate value and base
2 value.
2. explain what is meant by the term bistable.
3. define the term word as used in units of storage.
4. differentiate between a bit and byte.
5. convert between the various units of storage.
6. convert between the decimal and binary number systems.
7. use binary addition to find sum of binary numbers.
8. find two’s complement representation of binary numbers.
9. match computer terms with descriptions.
10. differentiate between CD and DVD.
11. give examples of CD and DVD.
12. differentiate between direct access method and sequential method.
13. state the tasks that various hardware components perform.
14. distinguish among the different types of user interface

EXAMINATION STRUCTURE

PAPER 1 –Multiple Choice

This section of the examination will test your knowledge of all objectives above; will consist of
only 45 multiple choice questions and will be marked out of forty five (45).

PAPER 2 –

Section 1- Units of Storage

This section of the examination will test your ability to recall definition of terms associated with
units of storage. You should also be able know the units of storage and organize them in
ascending to descending order, vice versa. You should also be able to identify the abbreviations
for the units of storage, their approximate values and their base 2 values. This section will consist
of 2 questions. Question 1 will be marked out of twenty (20) and question 2 will be marked out
of (10). This overall section will be marked out of thirty (30).

Section 2- Data Representation

This section of the examination will test your ability to apply knowledge gained on the topic of
Data Representation. This section will be comprised of one (1) question and will be marked out of
ten (10).

Section 3- Input & Output Devices & Media

This section of the examination will test your ability to apply knowledge gained on the following
topics: Input and Output Devices and Media. This section will be comprised of Three (3) questions
and will be marked out of twenty-five (25).
