Comments for draft construction drawing of Airbnb Cebu

1) Is there any soil investigation being carried out prior the design of the foundation. Is
it necessary since the design is to ensure that the building is build on soil with
bearing capacity of 3000 psf.

The owner should provide the Soil Analysis on this structure with Licensed
Geotechnical Engineer. As the Structural Design Engineer of the structure, mostly of
the soil bearing capacity of Cebu City is above 3000 psf on the neighbouring lands.

2) Is shallow footing sufficient for a 4-storey building?

If it is width and length of the structure is not long enough, but our structure is
enough for this kind of footing.

3) What is the reinforcement design for the slab of various level. Are they designed
similarly? What are the loadings considered?

Yes, they are similar. The purpose on each floor is residential. The loadings
considered are the wall partitions, tiles and the residential load.

4) Noted that there is a 2m cantilever at the southern part of the building. Please
ensure it is adequately design for.

It is adequately design for residential only.

5) Please provide the connection details for the interface between the concrete slab
and the transfer I-beam

Please see the attachment file.

6) Is the building designed for earthquake and other adverse weather that are common
in Cebu, Philippines. i.e what joint is being designed for between the column and
foundation.
Yes, we are using these parameters on designing the structure.
1. Wind Load
UBC 1997 Volume 2 Section 1620, p = Ce Cq Qs I
NSCP 2010 Section 207.5.12.2, p = q GCp – qi (GCpi)
Basic Wind Velocity = 250 kph
Importance Factor = 1 .00
2. Seismic Load
Static Force Procedure
- UBC 1997 Section 1630.2, Method A
- NSCP 2010 Section 208.5.2.1, Method A
V = [Cv I / R T] W
Z = 0 .40 , I =1.0 , R = 8.5, S =1.50
T = Ct (hn0.75) , Ct = 0.035, C = 1.25 S /(T0.67)
W = Total Dead Load

Story Drift Limitations

Calculated story drifts using m, maximum inelastic response

displacement, shall not exceed:
.025 x story height, for T < 0.7 sec
.020 x story height, for T >= 0.7 sec

Following the AISC Steel Codes, the steel plate bolted on the concrete pedestal and
the steel column welded on the steel plate

7) Please advise if the column of each level is RC or I-beam.

Only the pedestal is concrete and slab while the column and beams are steel.

8) For the connection details in drawing S2, are they all joined by welding?

Hi Abb, unsay nakabutang sa S2 page?

9) Please furnish the connection detail for BP1 to 3. How is the W beam being attached
to its base? i.e by welding, bolting.

It is being presented in drawing of connection details that the W beam is welded on

the plate and the plate is bolted on the concrete column.

10) In drawing S4, noted that the steps of the staircase are not vertical. Is there any
reason for such design?

hi Abb, What they mean for not vertical?

11) Noted that in drawing S4, there are 2 rebars holding down the footing supporting
the stairs but not for the rest of the footings. Is it because that particular footing is
used to take tension?

What are the two rebars, please elaborate on the drawings.
