 Equivalent: If two ratio are equivalent then


they are in proportion. For example, the ratio 3
to ( : ) 6 and 10 to 20 are equivalent ( in
proportion) because 3 is half of 6 and 10 is half
of 20.
1. 7 to 21 and 21 to 42 = ratios are not in
proportion.
Because 7 x 3 is 21 and if 21 x 3 is 63, so its
not in proportion.
2. 1 to 4 and 4 to 1 = ratios are not in
proportion.
Because 1 x 4 is 4 and is 4 x 4 is 16, so its not
in proportion.
3. 5 to 25 and is 15 to 75 = ratios are in
proportion.
Because 5 x 5 is 25 and 15 x 5 is 75, so its in
proportion
4. 1/8 0.125 12.5% : diubah ke fraction
1/8 in fraction is 1/8
0.125 in fraction is 1/8
12.5% in fraction is 1/8

 Percentage of quantity
 To find a certain percentage of a given quantity,
write the percentage as a fraction out of 100 and
change the ‘of ‘ to a “x”. Then simplify.
 Example : 5% of 200
= 5/100 x 200
= 10

1. A heater uses 3 units of electricity in 40 minutes.
How many units does it use in 2 hours?

2 hour = 120 minutes

2. A machine puts tar on a road at the rate of 4 metres in


minutes.
a) How long does it take to cover 1 km of road?
b) How many metres of road does it cover in 8 hours?

Answer :
A) 1 km = 1000m
4 metres : 5 minutes
1 : 5/4
1000m : 5/4 x 1000 = 250 x 5 = 1250 minutes
b) Metres : minutes
4 : 5
4/5 : 1 ! 8 hours= 480 minutes!
4/5 x 480 : 480
=384 m

= 3+2 = 5

2. Divide 8m in the ratio 3 : 13
=3 + 13 = 16
8 : 16 =1/ 2
1/2x3 = 3/2
1/2x13 =13/2 or 6½

3. Divide 2 km in the ratio 3 : 8 : 9


= 3 + 8 +9 = 20
2 : 20= 1/10
1/10 x 3 = 3/10
1/10 x 8 = 8/10 or 4/5
1/10 x 9 = 9/10
4. Divide 36 liter in the ratio 2 : 4 : 6
=1:2:3
1+2+3=6
36 : 6 = 6
6x1=6
6 x 2 = 12
6 x 3 = 18
 Converting decimal into mix number
Ex :
 Decimal Mix number
1. 3,25 3 25 over 100 = 3 ¼
2. 7,625 7 625 over 1000 = 7 125
over 200 = 7 25 over 40 =7 5 over 8
 Calculate fraction of quantity
 It just the same with the paper one last time but it’s
a fraction.
 Ex: 2/5 of 80 = 32
2/2 of 123456789 = 123456789
3/81 of 405 = 15
