Week1 Main Campus Network Cabling System Installation

Oct15-22 We have seen that network cable system installation
The network was been designed. While it’s time to run the wires, set up the patch
panels, string the fiber, and configure the switches.
Networking
The computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone lines, radio
waves, satellites, or infrared light beams.

Two very common types of networks include:

 Local Area Network (LAN

 Wide Area Network (WAN)

Week2 About protocol

Oct23-30
A protocol is a set of rules that governs the communications between computers on a
network. In order for two computers to talk to each other, they must be speaking the
same language.
Many different types of network protocols and standards are required to ensure that
your computer can communicate with another computer located on the next desk or
half-way around the world. From the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Reference
Model defines some of networking protocols.

November

Week3 Nov1-
8 Straight through cable arrangement
Week4 Nov9-
16 We use this UTP cabling for the different type of network devices. This type of
File of two cable will be used most of the time and can be used to:
weeks
together
 Connect a computer to a switch
 Connect a computer to a cable
 Connect a router's LAN port to a switch
 Connect two switches

Crossover cable arrangement

We use this UTP cabling for the same type of network devices where the pins
order on one end follows the 568A pinning order and the other end of the cable
follows the 568B pinning order. That means connecting two pieces of equipment
that have the same pin edge on both ports. Such as connecting

 Connect two computers directly.

 Connect a router's LAN port to a switch/hub's normal port. (Normally
used for expanding network)
 Connect two switches/hubs by using normal port in both switches/hubs.

In you need to check how crossover cable looks like, both side (side A and side
B) of cable have wire arrangement with following different color

The difference between Cross Cable and Straight Cable

Now days, LAN card has intelligence, so that both cables can work. They have a
feature on lots of switches and hubs. Straight and crossover cable can be Cat3,
Cat 5, Cat 5e or Cat 6 UTP cable, the only difference is each type will have
different wire arrangement in the cable for serving different purposes. Straight
cables connect two DIFFERENT types of devices. Whereas crossover cables
connect two of the SAME type

Ethernet network cables are straight and crossover cable. This Ethernet network
cable is made of 4 pair high performance cable that consists of twisted pair
conductors that used for data transmission. Both end of cable is called RJ45
connector.
Week5
Nov17-24 Switch
A network switch is a small hardware device that joins multiple computers
together within one local area network (LAN).

It is a piece of a physical circuitry component that governs signalflow. Having a

switch allows a connection to be opened or closed. When opened the switch
allows a signal or power to flow through the connection. When closed the switch
stops the flow and breaks the circuit connection.
