CREATIVITY, IMAGINATION AND
EXPRESSION
Intended Learning Outcomes
 At the end of this lesson, students are expected
to demonstrates the following:
◦ Differentiate art from nature
◦ Characterize artistic expression based on personal
experiences
◦ Discuss the nature of art’s preliminary expressions
Diagnostics
Learning Checkpoint Agree
Disagree

Imagination is a product of art

Art is the product of imagination

Creativity can be learned

Artist can create a work of art if he can express his emotion

Lesson 2

LET’S GET STARTED

• Get a piece of paper
• Then look outside the classroom
• Then, from what you saw, draw the thing that
you considered beautiful
It takes an artist to make art
One may perceive beauty everyday

But not every beautiful thing that can be seen and experienced
may truly be called a work of art
Is a product of man’s

creativity
imagination
expression
Is not considered art

Because it is
not made by
man
may be inspired by nature or
other works of art

But artist invents

his own forms
and patterns
According to his own perception
of beauty
Perhaps not everyone can be considered an artist

But all can be spectators of art

Art Appreciation as a Way of Life

“the role of art as creative work depicts the world in a

completely different light and perspective, and the
source due to human freedom” (Jean-Paul Sartre)
Art Appreciation as a Way of Life
What is
beautiful
about this
painting?

The Weeping Woman,

1937, Pablo Picasso
Art Appreciation as a Way of Life

In cultivating an appreciation of art

One should also exercise and develop his taste for
things that are fine and beautiful.

Intelligent choices and decision in inquiring necessities

and luxuries, what gives better value for time or
money

While taking into consideration the aesthetic

(appreciation of beauty) an practical value
Art Appreciation as a Way of Life

“learning to appreciate art, no matter what vocation

or profession you have, will lead to a fuller and more
meaningful life” (Collins & Riley, 1931)
The Role of Creativity in Art Making

requires
thinking
outside the
box
The Role of Creativity in Art Making

Is what sets
apart one
artwork from
another
The Role of Creativity in Art Making

Means you
have not seen
anything like it
or when it is
out of
ordinary
The Role of Creativity in Art Making

Does not simply

copy or imitate
another artist’s
work
He embraces
originality – own
flavor – own
creative place
Art is a Product of Imagination,
Imagination as a Product of Art

Start in the
human mind

It all begins with

imagination
Art is a Product of Imagination,
Imagination as a Product of Art

Albert Einstein demonstrated that knowledge is

actually derived from imagination

“imagination is more important than knowledge. For

knowledge is limited to all we now know and
understand, while imagination embraces the entire
world, and all there ever will be to know and
understand”
Art is a Product of Imagination,
Imagination as a Product of Art

Imagination allows endless possibilities

“Imagination produces art, art also produces

imagination”
Art is a Product of Imagination,
Imagination as a Product of Art

Creative pieces like molded clays and jars, were

made not only because they were functional but also
because beauty gave them joy (Collins & Riley, 1931)
Art is a Product of Imagination,
Imagination as a Product of Art
Art as Expression

How do you feel right now?

Art as Expression

There may have been times when you felt something

is going on with you

You try to explain it but you do not know how

Art as Expression

“Ang sakit sa dibdib”

When you keep holding into it

Release your self from this torment

Express it!
Art as Expression

an emotion will remain

unknown to a man until he

Expresses it!
Art as Expression

Through expression
An artist is able to explore his own emotions
And at the same time, create something
beautiful out of them
Art as Expression

Expressing emotions
Is something different from describing
emotions

“I am angry”
is not an expression of an emotion, but a mere
description
Art as Expression

Description
Destroy the idea of expression
Because it classifies the emotion – predictable
and ordinary
Art as Expression

Expression
On the other hand, individualizes
Artist has the freedom to express himself the
way he want to
Art as Expression

Expression
Makes people’s art not a reflection of what is
outside or external to them

But a reflection of their inner selves

ACTIVITY:
BLACKOUT POETRY
Blackout Poetry
 A great poetry activity for students is called Blackout
Poetry.
 It uses recycled books and newspapers to create poetry
artwork.
 The idea is to select specific words on a page to create
a poem and then blackout the rest.
 Participants use markers to create artwork to surround
their poems.
Blackout poetry is made by crossing
out words from a newspaper with a
sharpie to make a poem of the words
that remain.
Here are some of the poetry artworks!
“The best advice is not to write what
you know, it’s to write what you like. Write
