around you.

knowledge have you gained yesterday? of a Filipino written by Prof. Felix Bautista wherein
we were able to realize that there is nothing wrong
with patronizing foreign things as long as we keep
on loving our homeland in our own little ways.

Wow! You really have a great memory. It seems that : Yes sir, we are all ready!
you understood our previous topic. Are you ready for
our next topic?

That’s great!

C. Motivation

We will first have a game called “LOOK AT ME”

I will be dividing the class into four groups. Students

on these lines will be the LIGHTS GROUP, while the
others will be LENS GROUP. On the other side,
students on the first two columns will be the
CLICKER GROUP and lastly, we have the FLASH
GROUP from the last two columns. Group one will be
staying here, group two will stay next to group one.
Group three will stay on that side and behind them will
be the group four. Now, go with your groupmates on
the place I assigned quietly and arrange your chairs in
circles.

:ppt
For the instructions, please read the following: 1. Tell everything you observe on the picture.
2. One student from each group will share his/her
observation to the class.

students will be shown the following pictures:

(the teacher facilitates the activity)

Now look at those pictures especially the way they

were taken.
: Sir, the photographs were taken in different ways.
What have you noticed?

Yes, you are right.

D. Presentation of the Lesson

: Sir, I think today, we will be discussing the
The activity we had is of course related to our topic different ways on how to capture images.
today. Who wants to share his/her guess? Yes, Alexa?

Exactly! Today, class, we will be dealing with Film

Grammar.

E. Discussion / Analysis
: I think film grammar is the language of a camera.
Have you ever heard the film grammar? If yes, would
you mind sharing us your prior knowledge about it?

You have a good point! Because Film grammar is

actually the use of different camera shots to convey
the meaning of a text in a film.
:ppt
In fact, it includes the following, please read and tell (students read and share their ideas)
something about it. 1. A frame is every individual image of a film. It is
like a letter.
February 7, 2018

2. A shot is a single continuous recording of frames

made by a camera. It is like a word.
3. A scene is a series of related shots. It is like a
sentence. The study of transitions between scenes is
described in film punctuation.
4. A sequence is a series of scenes. It tells a major
part of a story. It is like a paragraph in a text or a
chapter in a novel.

Very good ideas, also, there are various types of :

camera shots. Who has an idea? Yes? 1. Extreme wide shot
2. Wide shot
3. Medium shot
4. Medium close up shot
5. Close up shot
6. Extreme close up shot
Very good!

Here are some examples:

For your next activity, I will be flashing a music video

by Calum Scott entitled You are the Reason. In your
respective groups, watch it carefully and answer the
questions on the worksheets I will be giving.
Understood?

While watching, tally the shots used in the MV. After

watching the video for the second time, I will give you
2 minutes to answer the questions. I will be collecting
your papers after. Understood? : Yes sir!

Let us answer the questions, let us start with the first

question. Are different shots used in making the : Yes, sir!
video?

Look at these screen shots of the video and tell me : Yes, sir!
what type of shot is, understood?

For the first picture: : Sir, that is an extreme wide shot.

Why?
February 7, 2018

: The view is so far from the subject that s/he isn't

even visible. The point of this shot is to show the

film.

How about this picture?

: Sir, that is a wide shot because it typically shows

the entire object or human figure

Correct! It is also used to show the relation of the

subject to its surroundings.

Next,

: That picture is an example of a medium shot.

Medium shot is used for dialogue sequences.

That’s right! However, this shot can also be used to

capture an individual person or other subjects. Its
purpose is to allow the viewer to pick up on the
character's movements and gestures.

How about this picture?

: That is an example of medium close up.

That’s right. It is used to give a closer look of the

subject.

Next picture.

: That is an example of a close up picture sir.

Close up shot tightly frames a person or an object for

a more cinematic effect.

And for the last picture,

: sir, that is an example of an extreme close up.

Exactly! This type of shot is used to show dramatic

scenes. It gives a very detailed view of the subject.

Did the different shots help in forwarding the message

of the song? : Yes, sir!

How? Yes, Sheena?

: with the use of several types of camera shots, the
video became effective in conveying the message of
the song because it helped the viewers look into
every detail of the story.
Great minds, Darwin!

F. Application

For your final activity called “PICTURE TALKS”.

This will be an individual task. Make a photo story
employing the six types of camera shots.

Very good. It seems that you really understood our
topic today.

to the development of the country or yourself? : I can use my knowledge in film grammar to make other

something to solve it together. With that I can also
become a better person which is an indication of my
