Introduction
ALPHA NUMERIC DIGITIZER - AND
The Alphanumeric Digitizer with data terminal ‘AND’ incorporates 32bit processor
based state-of-art technology, Sigma Delta type 24Bit Analog to Digital conversion,
power supply incorporated with EMI-RFI filter & spike suppressor and inbuilt opto
isolation of signals & I/Os makes it a reliable product.
2
Power supply
Internal power supply of indicator is switch mode power supply (SMPS). 750mA fuse is
provided for AC power supply. The rated AC supply is 90 V to 270 V AC 50 Hz/ 60 Hz.
Before connecting power to the indicator, ensure that the input voltage is within specified
range. When the instrument is switched ‘ON’, the display will show test cycle and then
software revision details for indicator.
Mains Connection
1) Ensure a proper earth connection to indicator. The Earth connection should be
connected through the three terminal power supply point provided on the rear panel.
2) Check voltage difference between Earth and Neutral terminal. It should be less then
2 volts AC. If this voltage difference is greater, it results in unstable process
variable reading.
3) Check for proper supply voltage before making connection to the indicator.
Input
The system accepts input signals in digital format coming from load cells.
Output
Serial communication is possible through RS-232 port provided in indicator.
Remote display can be connected using remote display port provided on rear panel.
Printout can be taken, by using centronics compatible parallel port provided on the back
panel of indicator, on any Epson LX 800 or TVSE compatible printer.
Keyboard
Keyboard with USB connector can be attached using, keyboard connector provided on
back panel of indicator.

Chapter 10
Trouble Shooting
Problem:
Problem:
The display completes the test cycle but does not display the weight and the indicator
hangs after test cycle.
Problem:
The display shows ADC-OR or Load cell error (ADC over range condition):
1. The load cell is not properly connected and the ADC circuit cannot sense the load cell.
Check for loose connection from Load Cell end and check the complete path from load
cells to indicator including junction box.
2. The internal ADC circuit is faulty. Replace ADC card (upper card in 3 card system) or
replace the Combo card in 2 card system.
3. The inter connecting cable between ADC card and Mother board (in 3 card system) is
loose or faulty. Check or replace.
4. The weight on the platform exceeds the value which can be handled by the analog circuit.
Reduce the weight on platform.
47
Problem:
1. The weight on the platform exceeds the programmed over capacity of the scale. Reduce
weight on the platform or recalibrate with higher value of maximum capacity of scale.
2. Load cell faulty.
Problem:
Unstable Weight Display (Flickering). The weight display is not stable and moves UP
and DOWN (both direction) in a fixed band.
3. If there is flicker with load cell simulator, it is a strong indication that the fault is in the
internal circuit of the indicator. The internal ADC circuit is faulty. Check and clean the
ADC circuit board / section with Isopropyl Alchohol. If the flickering fault continues,
replace ADC card (upper card in 3 card system) or replace the Combo card in 2 card
system.
4. Very low signal from load cell. Check for load cell capacity compared with platform
weighing capacity. Use lower capacity Load cells. If it is not possible to increase the load
cell capacity, then the minimum division size should be increased. If the minimum
division size is 5kg, then increase the same to 10 kg or more.
5. Increase the averaging. This will reduce the speed of weighment but will generate more
stability in weight display. The normal values for averaging are 1 to 3. In case of flicker,
it can be increased to 5 or more.
48
Problem:
Unstable Weight Display (Drifting). The weight display is not stable and moves in
UPWARD direction (continuously increasing and not stopping) or DOWNWARD
direction (continuously decreasing and not stopping).
1. Faulty Load cell or flux deposits on the Junction Box PCB. Check by using a Load cell
Simulator in place of actual Load cells. If the Fault is eliminated with Load cell
Simulator, it confirms that either the Load cell is faulty or there is contamination or flux
deposit on Junction Box PCB. If the Fault continues after cleaning this PCB, then one of
the Load cells is faulty. Check by method of elimination.
2. If the fault continues with Load cell Simulator, then there is contamination or flux deposit
on analog section of the Indicator. Clean the analog section of the indicator with
Isopropyl Alchohol. If the drifting fault continues after cleaning the analog section,
replace ADC card (upper card in 3 card system) or replace the Combo card in 2 card
system.
Problem:
Problem:
The internal calibration data or other operational parameters like ticket header footer or
subtitles are damaged.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Brightness of LED
The brightness of the LED display can be controlled and is field programmable.
Code entry2: It deals with coding of ticket entry2 and is associated with charges and mobile
number. The association of charges and mobile number with enrty2 is field permissible i.e. it is
not necessary to always associated charges or mobile no. with codes of ticket entry 2. Codes for
entry 2 can be used normally.
Code entry3: It deals with coding of ticket entry3 and is associated with charges and mobile no.
The association of charges and mobile no. with enrty3 is field permissible i.e. it is not necessary
to always associated charges or mobile no. with codes of ticket entry 3. Codes for entry 3 can be
used normally.
Note: Charges or mobile no. can be associated with any one of the ticket entries i.e. entry2 or
entry3. But they can be associated with one entry at a time i.e. for example if charges are associated
with ticket entry3 then they can be associated with ticket entry2. Same is with mobile no.
association.
For above explained codification, pre-inform your installation engineer, so that he will program
these subtitles at data entry position 2 and 3, during installation.
A sample list of codes associated with charges and their corresponding data is shown for ease of
understanding:
The code-based system has a capacity to store 100 codes under each ticket-entry (1, 2 & 3).
55
Dynamic Pre-Printed
Pre-printed stationary are continuous Weighment Slip Tickets, which are printed by the
publisher/stationer. These tickets have the prewritten headers, footers, logos of the company,
terms and conditions, to make it authentic. It has some entries like entry names, charges, weights,
dates that has to be printed differently for each new record.
The matter printed using dot matrix printer in-front of the published matter can be customized
using dynamic setting facility provided in the IIT 4500A.
End Note
Footer is a two-line footnote printed on the bottom of the ticket. Each line of two-line footer can
contain maximum 40 characters and will be center adjusted on the ticket.
Engineer Login
Engineer Login is that password under which all the installation procedures are protected. The
default factory set password is 44644 for engineer login.
Footer lines
See, End Note
Header Lines
Header is the three-line heading, generally printed on the top of the ticket. It is also known as
ticket title. This three-line header is user programmable, and gets printed on each weighment
ticket. The header can be programmed as the name of weighbridge, first line of address and
second line of address. Each of the three lines of header can contain maximum 40 characters and
can be set for bold type printing or normal printing.
Industry Mode
‘Industry’ mode type selection is used at places, where weighment is an internal procedure of
industry. Weight will be displayed continuously for the full range of the weighbridge.
Karda Deduction
It is the deduction applicable in ginning application. The karda percentage can be programmed
up to 50.0%. Example for setting the % as 3%, enter the value 30. It is one time entry. It is
applied on Net weight calculated from difference of Ist and IInd weighment. Net weight after
deduction is called Final Net weight.
56
Line feed
See, Gap between two tickets.
Mandi Charges
Mandi charge is the duty payable to anaj-mandi for the transaction being held. It is one time
entry in Ps/Qtl.
Operator Manual
Operator manual is the summary of indicators working for operator. It consists of all needed
operations for the operator.
Printing Slip
In indicator, slip/ticket printout can be taken for each weighment. The ticket contains details like
serial number or RST number of the ticket, gross weight, tare weight, net weight, date and time
of weighment, charges of weighment, details of customer and header-footer.
Each slip/ticket is saved as a unique id called RST number.
Public mode
All the road weighbridges come under the category of public weighbridges. Whenever ‘public’
type is selected, any weight up to ‘500Kg.’ will be displayed in normal operation. When the
57
weight on the platform exceeds ‘500Kg.’, the display will not show the weight and will display
dashes like ‘- - - -’. The display will show weight, when actual weighment is done. After all the
data entry is completed, the weight of the vehicle on the platform will be displayed. The record
will be saved even if the operator tries to escape the weighment sequence. Setting weighbridge
operation to public type will thus eliminate charge collection fraud by operator of the
weighbridge.
Rate Amount
It is field permissible entry in paisa/kg automatically calculated by indicator & is printed in
Rs/Qtl during second weighment. Amount= (rate * net weight)/10000.
RST number
Each slip/ticket is saved as a unique id called RST number.
SMS Facility
IIT 4500A has the facility to send and receive SMS to the mobile number. Indicator can send
SMS to codified mobile numbers or registered mobile numbers or mobile numbers entered
during weighment data entry. Registered mobile numbers can demand for ticket or report from
indicator.
Subtitles
Subtitles are also known as data entry headers/ Ticket entries. Denoted by, ‘Entry1, Entry2, Entry3,
Entry4 & Entry5’.
These are used for identifying data during data entry. During weighment, the subtitle is displayed
& user is prompted to enter data against the displayed subtitle. Maximum 10 subtitles can be
programmed and each can have a maximum of 25 characters.

58
Vehicle Code based system can be used during weighment, to feed a three-digit vehicle code for a
25character vehicle number and its Tare weight. Vehicle code can be created for first data entry
header. By entering vehicle code, vehicle number and stored tare weight will be recalled for
weighment. The use of vehicle code system finds application in industrial weighbridges, mining
application or any similar application where the same trucks are used multiple times for goods
transport.
Wi Fi display
IIT 4500A has the facility of WI FI (wireless) display. Display can be connected to the IIT
without any wired connection. IIT transfers the weight on display with WI FI communication.

Chapter 13
Dynamic Pre-printed Setting
The matter printed using dot matrix printer in-front of the published matter can be customized
using dynamic setting facility.
Such type of stationary i.e., “pre-printed stationary” can be set in field for any type of alignment
using “IIT 7300”. This field setting facility will allow quick support to end user. As well as
picking up, such weighbridge orders without any factory support and co-ordination.
Length of ticket: It is length of ticket between two perforation lines. Generally 3inch, 4inch and
6inch tickets are available in field.
3inch tickets are also known by 4ticket per sheet (Standard sheet size is 12 inches)
4inch tickets are also known by 3ticket per sheet (Standard sheet size is 12 inches)
6inch tickets are also known by 2ticket per sheet (Standard sheet size is 12 inches)
Tkt Entries: These are the entry heads commonly known as subtitles. Example vehicle no. ,
party , material etc.
Number of ticket entries, their names and their print length along with their position can be
defined using dynamic preprinted setting.
Weights: Gross weight, Tare Weight and Net weight positions can be defined in the ticket.
Dates related with Gross weight & Tare weight can be printed/ not printed on the ticket. Their
positions can be defined if required.
Similarly Time related with Gross weight & Tare weight can be printed/ not printed on the ticket.
Their positions can be defined if required.
KG: This unit “Kg” can be printed / not printed just after all the weights.
Charges: Position of charges printing can be defined. The type of charges (0, 1, 2, and 3) will
apply according to the basic settings related to printing.
60
Serial Number: This is an auto incrementing number that shows the total number of prints taken
from the weighbridge in any ways like by F1, F2, F3, F4/F6 or print more copies.
Note: If any ticket contains only one unique number with subtitles named as “Serial No.”, then
don’t treat it as serial number, but treat it as RST number.
Copy Number: This is an auto incrementing number, that shows the total number of prints taken
for a particular record (RST number) in any ways like by first weighment (F1), second
weighment (F2 / F3), duplicate copy F4/F6 or print more copies.
By this it can be known that how many copies for that RST number are generated so far.
Common weighment date on top: Some pre-printed tickets have the facility to print the
date on top section along with subtitles, instead of printing it in front of gross/tare weights. This
date will be first weighment’s date at the time of first weighment, second weighment’s date at
the time of second weighment & second weighment date at the time of printing further duplicate
copy.
This date can be printed/ not printed on the ticket. Its position can be defined if required.
Common weighment time on top: Some pre-printed tickets have the facility to print the time on
top section along with subtitles, instead of printing it in front of gross/tare weights. This time will
be first weighment’s time at the time of first weighment, second weighment’s time at the time of
second weighment & second weighment time at the time of printing further duplicate copy.
This time can be printed/ not printed on the ticket. Its position can be defined if required.
Print Net weight in words: Net weight can be printed in words, like 1000 will be written as
“one zero zero zero”. This is an optional facility and can be used if ticket has sufficient blank
space to print it.
“Net weight in words” can be printed/ not printed on the ticket. Its position can be defined if
required.

Horizontal shifting correction however available, first of all it should be tried to place the printing
stationary on the left most side on the printer. Mostly this will solve the horizontal shifting and
correction may not be needed.
Similarly the printed matter can be above the required position and may need a correction.
Horizontal correction: Sometimes the horizontal alignment does not get controlled by proper
placing of the paper. The printed matter can shift to the right side or left side of the stationary.
66
Nature of shifting Correction required
Printed matter is above the stationary Shift Up (Vertical)
matter.
Printed matter is below the stationary Shift Down (Vertical)
matter.
Printed matter is on the left side of Shift Right (Horizontal)
stationary matter
Printed matter excess right side of Shift Left (Horizontal)
stationary matter
Note: The unique no. (RST No.) where ticket gets stored, is denoted by “Serial No.” in Shiva
pre-printed.
The vertical distance of all the entries that are printed in same line is same. For example
“Serial No.” and “Vehicle type” are in the same line.
The horizontal distance of all the entries that are printed below one another in a queue is
same. For example “Vehicle type” and “Commodity” are in the same vertical line.
The dimensions of the parameters present in the ticket SHIVA are given below:

Precautions
Please keep in mind following precautions before installation of the indicator
on the site:
1. When connecting with the Mains power supply, connection to true Earth should be as per
drawing and recommendations suggested in this manual. This will provide protection to
indicator from damage due to Lightning, Voltage Spikes, Electrical Surge, Static Charge and
Electrical Noise
2. The indicator must be protected from high electrical voltages (spikes and surges) by using
UPS, if required.
3. Avoid using solvents like benzene and nitro oils for cleaning the outer body of the indicator.
Use a damp cloth to clean the outer surface if required. Shut off the power input to the indicator
before cleaning the body.
4. Liquid and conducting particle should not be poured into the indicator, otherwise the electronic
components will be damaged and the indicator will be prone to electric shocks.
5. In case of any malfunction or electrical fault, the power supply to the indicator must be shut
immediately and indicator returned to factory for repairs.
6. Avoid Welding on the platform structure or foundation, if the load cells are connected to the
platform.
7. The cable length between the junction box and the indicator must be as small as possible.
8. Cut off power supply of indicator, before connecting or disconnecting any peripherals like
printer, load cell, display etc.
9. Read carefully & apply what described in the POWER SUPPLY & START-UP section!
10. Do not install in an environment with any risk of explosion.
11. Any attempt to repair or alter the unit can expose the user to the danger of electric shock and
it will void warranty.
12. Plug the indicator into properly grounded socket outlet of the correct voltage, installed near
the equipment and easily accessible. Never use the unit without an appropriate earth ground
connection.
13. Any computer based system should have a separate, grounded power circuit.

Safety Regulations
To avoid personal injury and equipment damage, follow the safety regulations below.
Use as originally intended
The measuring system and mechanical components connected to it are exclusively designed for
weighing and related controlling tasks.
Personnel
Only skilled persons may should install, commission, operate and maintain the device.
All persons working on the measuring system are required to observe the safety instructions and
know the parts of the technical documentation relevant to the operation.
The supervisor is responsible for instructing his operators to observe all regulations and
instructions given.
Parameter Changes
The measuring system's functionality is determined by parameters, which must exclusively be
changed by persons familiar with the measuring system’s operation. Parameters incorrectly set
may cause injuries or damage to the machine whenever a user control system is connected. They
can also adversely affect weighing operation.
Password
Software parameters are protected from unintended change by password.
Moisture Protection
Protect all system parts, electrical items in particular, from moisture (e.g. during maintenance and
servicing) when housings are open. Observe housing protection standards.
Replacement of Components
Spare parts must meet the technical specifications indicated by manufacturer. To ensure this
requirement is met, only genuine spare parts from manufacturer should be used. When using other
