3. The other theme which could be brought forth in comparison with the al baqarah is the
injunction of jihad i.e Qital, the Muslims were permitted to fight against infidels in al
baqarah, this chapter presents fewer details regarding the battle of Badr, while the
detailed discussion comes in the next chapter which I told you was the chapter Al Anfal
according to the revealed order of the chapters on prophet Muhammad PBUH, and there
Allah clearly told how the smaller group dominates over the bigger group in size. we had
seen it in an example of talut and jalut that many a time, it occurred when a small number
overcame a number bigger than its size and strength, and there is nothing unnatural in it
because it is all depended upon the will and action taken to secure its position which
outnumbers those which are strong in numbers, but weak in actions.
4. The fourth point which has been highlighted by Allah in this Chapter is to remind Muslims
of the designation and the status they possess and what obligations they have on their part
as Muslims, if one could understand the two main verses of this chapter, the hopes are
higher that he would be able to change himself then.
In al baqarah Allah mentioned this Ummah in the words
ٰ
او اكذا ِلكا اجعا ْلناا ُك ْم أ ُ َّمةً او ا
ً س
طا
While here the purpose of this designation is explained and clarified, and anyone who
wants to unite Ummah today he has to take refuge in the oneness of Allah and hold fast to
the rope of Allah.

5. The fifth thing discussed here is the failure or end of any society owe a great deal to its
economic instability, a society cease to grow and would soon be turned into ashes if its
inhabitants do not enjoy the economic justices and fairness. this takes us to the subject of
riba or usury again in this chapter, although a slight portion it is, it is significant in its
content, that how society and then the whole world can be saved from the evils of this
devilish system of wealth.
6. And the sixth issue is the rebuttal to the Christian doctrine and philosophy they possess
and preach regarding the prophet Isa a.s, and this refutation did not lead to the disgrace
on prophet eesa's part, or his virtue is being diminished, Allah took the miracle of eesa to
the limelight, his miraculous birth with the father, taken by Allah as a virtue on his part.
This rebuttal to the claims of Christians is powerful without invoking the sanctity of the prophet
hood of Isa a.s.
So this is all the brief introduction of its chapters or references of the context under which we
will understand these verses, the other thing is its rhythmic connection with the previous chapter
al baqarah.
There are a number of similarities in these two chapters, I would put before you several points of
similarities here.
You have already completed the commentary of surah al baqarah.
1. The first point of resemblance between two is the style of its beginning, both of them
commenced with the alif lam meem.
2. The second thing is this chapter consists of 200 verses, while of baqarah 286 verses, so it is
next in terms of length to the chapter of al baqarah.
3. The third point id both of them are called الزهراوينwhich means the shining thing.
4. Similarly, both of these chapters have been given special names, the sun and the moon, the Al-
Baqarah and al Imran respectively, and the difference in both the celestial bodies correspond
to the difference in both of the chapters, al-baqarah has a sublime and superb aura, the gravity
is high, its augustness and dignifies style is its hallmark, while the al Imran has a soft texture,
and you would feel its lightness and its soft effect on yourselves too.
the order of these three chapters of al Quran can be understood by analysing the context of these
three chapters, starting with the opening chapter of al Quran, al Fatiha, we prayed to Allah to save
us from those paths which were trodden by those who caused your wrath and those who were
the misguided one, in answer to that Allah sent the al baqarah where he described clearly all
those who belonged to the group upon which the wrath of Allah has descended.
In the chapter al Imran, we would see the manners of misguided people, who are far away from
the knowledge and its sources, who believe in the idea of the superiority of knowledge less
person to a knowledgeable one, and makes a point of it, the more you are ignorant the more you
would be less accountable, in contrast to the knowledge which would be held accountable if not
acted upon, so we can conclude, that the first chapter i.e. Al Baqarah, it defines and explains the
ideas and beliefs of Jews, while the second chapter describes the Christians beliefs.
Along with it, you had already studied the three main groups of people, in the previous chapter,
the pious ones, the hypocrites, and the infidels. The same pattern is adopted here with a slight
difference in numbers of groups, where we would study the two groups of people, الراسخون في العلم
and في قلوبهم زيغ. And the two types of verses concerning these groups.
In the previous chapter, we studied the creation of Adam a.s while in this chapter we would cover
the creation of prophet Isa a.s. as both of these creations are the miracle in itself, one born(adam)
without the parents or no other human being existed before him, while the other one without the
father.
Likewise, the concluding portion of both chapters is similar, as both ends with the prayers, this
shows the importance of prayer in a person life.
May we able to accomplish what is in this chapter, and gain from it what is there in it.
While the third one is of chapter at taha ِ ُّت ا ْل ُو ُجوهُ ِل ْل اح ِِّي ا ْلقاي
.ۖ وم ِ عنا
او ا
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence
If we combine all three verses, the common term in them is the word, ي ا ْلقايُّوم
ُّ ا ْل احwhile it is
unknown which one of the word in the sentence is the actual isme azam, but the proven fact is the
name of Allah of Allah is worthy of such blessings that whoever takes it in any form it will reap its
effects on him. This is the introduction to the attributes of Allah.
As told earlier in the intro, that the verses ranging from the 1-32 had been revealed in the context
of battle of badr, and the later verses revealed before the delegation of Najran, but several
commentators argue that all of its initial verses actually revealed in address to the delegation, it
was a scenario just like we have today, some Christian delegates come to a Muslim community
center and ask to introduce Islam to them, so here Allah introduced himself by revealing these
verses and asked a logical question that does Christ the messenger you follow and show as an
epitome of power, did he possess such traits of ي ا ْلقايُّو ُم
ُّ ا ْل اح.
We have talked earlier about both if these attributes but here I would just mention slightly, that
ا ْل اح ُّي the Ever-Living ا ْلقايُّو ُم, the Sustainer of existence.
The ever living not dependent on another creature for his existence, he is the supreme enough to
be the one who is independent of any other living while the sustainer of existence is the one on
whom the dependency is shown, we all are dependent on him one way or other, even our birth
and presence in this world is dependent on him, if He wants, a child would be born, but His own
living is empty of such dependencies. It is a pre requisite of any entity who is being worshipped
that he is superior to All of others, and by virtue of His nature the supremacy resides with Him
alone, so, He is neither dependent on someone nor needs anyone, instead he is the sustainer of
all, and that is true from rational point as well, if someone is not independent of his own creation,
then He is not worthy of being worshipped even, the worship itself requires the everlasting ever
existing one, which never ceased to exist.
We need to look into our selves do we really take Allah as this?
Afterwards, the textual proofs come,
This third part is what Quran denotes towards when it says ص ِ ِّدقًا ِلِّ اما با ْينا يا اد ْي ِه
ُم ا
Same is the case with the Injeel, it also contains four major themes:
1. Biographical part of prophet Musa a.s
2. His saying like the narrations of prophet Muhammad pbuh
3. Few authentic verses
4. The altered verses
You would be surprised to hear that there was not a sign of any book by the name injeel during
the life time of prophet Musa as. It was written as late as after his was lifted up.
Four types of injeels are famous:
1. Luca
2. Mathew
3. Johana
4. Barnaba’s
This last one is the most authentic one, but its publication is deemed illegal. Somehow, I got to
have its Urdu translation and I literally felt as if I was reading the Quran, its style and manner is
similar to the Quranic style. Its content is consistent with the teachings of Quran in matters
related to prophet Isa a.s.
All of their names are named after the disciples or people who compiled them.
For us what is in it? We need to believe in it to the point that they were the source of guidance in
ِ َّ ِمن قا ْب ُل ُهدًى ِلِّلنBefore, as
their times, not now because looking closer to the verse after it, اس
guidance for the people before means the time before the inspiration and the revelation of the
Quran, such a clear and huge evidence it is, that the time to get guidance from these books have
been gone, it was restricted to the times before the Quran, Allah did not say after the Quran it si
guidance too, and you will read the famous incidence where
Umar Ibn al-Khattab brought a copy of the Torah to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and
said: "O Apostle of God, this is a copy of the Torah." But [the Prophet] kept silent. Then `Umar
started reading and the face of the Prophet kept changing. So, Abu Bakr interrupted him
violently: "Don't you see the face of the Prophet?" `Umar looked at the Prophet's face and said
"May God preserve me from His anger and from the anger of his Apostle, peace be upon him,
we accepted God as Lord and Islam as religion and Muhammad as prophet." Then the
Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "By the One Who owns Muhammad's soul, if Moses, peace
be upon him, appeared to you and you followed him and left me, you would go astray from
the right path and if he were alive and reached [the time of] my prophet hood he would have
followed me. "
So, today if someone reads it due to some curiosity or any other reason he must be aware that the
chances of him being misguided are high, and unfortunately, here we have kids who do not even
read Quran. You know the standard of public schools very well, so the parents who can afford to
send their kids to private schools they carry the burden but along with the high standard of
education what flaws it have is the indoctrination of Christianity through education, and this is
common in our sides like north America and other areas, so at the expense of religion our kids
are being given the worldly education, and mothers then come and complain about their worry.
Our fault lies in the fact that we did not even armed our kids with their own religion first and sent
them there, this lack of preparedness on our part put them on the path of negation, few negate
prayers few other things while few totally negate the religion. This is that class of society which is
educated, well established in status and wealth, the worry of mother or parents is not restricted
to their kids not offering prayers but it is the ill arguments and discussion around the Islam and
doubts in their hearts regarding the truthfulness of this religion that is worrisome. These are the
people who belong to that group of people as I mentioned earlier, who are neither sincere
hearted not hypocrites but are the peace makers and pretend themselves to be those who belong
to the either group.
Allah clearly mentioned now it is the Quran which is to be followed and which is to be the source
of guidance, why because it is
اوأ ا ا
نز ال ا ْلفُ ْرقا ا
ۗ ان
. And He revealed the Qur'an
What it meant by AL FURQAN , imam Tabri said الفصل بين الحق و الباطل
Few have taken the meaning of miracles which were given to the prophets to manifest the
authority. While others took it for wisdom and intellect because it can too differ between the
right and wrong.
To summarize, Allah has made the Quran a standard and an instrument to be taken as a criterion
to judge and see the validity and authentication of older books, and in the case of Israelites
traditions or narrations, as we see numerous in books like ibne kathir and many other books the
principle statement given by prophet is DO NOT NEGATE IT NOR ACCEPT IT, means the
tradition from those resources cannot be given as an evidence in case of aqaids, but if it not in
conflict with Quran, then one can present it, as it would be not of harmful nature nor beneficial.
Now you understood the connection between these three verses, because mostly when we start
to red this chapter, we could not understand the reason behind presence of these verses in the
beginning.
Here Allah declared the authenticity and the status it enjoys on the other scriptures, it is being
read throughout the world, in different cultures but not a single change in its signs you could
detect, but still those who do not accept so, then for them
