American Balkanization Debriefing Document

The reason I divided the United States the way I did was due to the different ideas and opinions of the
former American citizens. A huge civil war resulting from different opinions about what the new capital
of the United States should be. Since the citizens could not decide on what capital they favored the
most, a civil war started (infamously named: The Final American Civil War). In the aftermath of the war,
the United States broke up into four different states: West Coasters, Southern Farmers, Mid-Western
Trail Lands, and East Coasters.

West Coasters could not stand the fighting, so I chose to break away their territory. Ironically, due to
their great diversity (being in the western side of the United States which has densely immigrated
population), the civil war continues within their borders. Even though the civil war continues it is at a
much smaller level, and it is more a war of ideas though the opposing ideas caused by the war are
steadily resolving the issues that they were having, since West Coasters population are coming to an
agreement and are being more unified as a sovereign state. The reason I divided West Coasters were the
way it was is due to its majority agreement within the former thirteen states that Sacramento Should be
the new capital for the United States. Since Sacramento was the majority choice it became the obvious
choice for the capital of West Coasters. I chose Sacramento because I believed it stood for the culture of
the newly formed state the best, it has homes at affordable prices, and is very diverse which shows how
welcoming it is as a capital (these ideas were derived from the original thoughts about Sacramento as
the nation’s capital from the citizens of West Coasters).

I broke away Southern Farmers from the rest of the United States, it needed all seventeen former states
to protect themselves from the surrounding states and prevent invasion. Additionally, I formed it
because of the cultural similarities. At first the citizens of the newly formed Southern Farmers were
against the idea of Balkanization but after some inspirational testimonies from the local legislature,
majority agreed with the idea. I chose Southern Farmers capital as Atlanta, I felt that it had a great
historical background that would unify and inspire the newly formed sovereign state. Also, it was a very
culturally diverse city in which I think most Southern Farmers citizens could relate to.

Mid-Western Trail Lands is a collection of states that I put together for one purpose, survival. Because
Mid-Western Trail Lands has very little diversity, resources, or population it relies on a treaty that I have
created for the new sovereign region, that all the other sovereign states have agreed to. The treaty is
called the Needy Treaty, in the treaty it says that all sovereign states must give resources and aid to Mid-
Western Trail Lands for five years. In return for this generous aid they will receive the amount they gave
to Mid-Western Trail Lands plus a two percent interest rate (if Mid-Western Trail Lands does not repay
all sovereign states in thirty years after the five year period has concluded, the other sovereign states
have full authority and permission to take over their land and or resources, this was voted on by all
major leading political figures within all sovereign states). I decided that the capital for Mid-Western
Trail Lands would be Chicago for various reasons. Chicago is a highly productive economic center, has a
great central location, has numerous historic elements embedded within the city, as well as the
remarkable architecture.
