Minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting on November 4, 2010

I. Call to Order: The Palm Beach Democratic Party Executive Committee Meeting on
November 4, 2010 was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Mark Alan Siegel at Temple
Emeth, followed by the

II. Pledge of Allegiance

III. Attendance: Officers: Chairman, Mark Alan Siegel; Vice Chair, Terrie Rizzo; State
Committeewoman, Bunny Steinman; State Committeeman, John Ramos; National
Committeewomen, Evelyn Garcia; Treasurer, Bob Diffenderfer; Sergeant-at-Arms, Stu
Joseph, and Parliamentarian, Ira J. Raab.

Elected Officials: Mark Pafford, State Rep., District 88; Joseph Abruzzo, State Rep.,
District 85; Mack Bernard, State Rep., District 84; Dr. Steve Perman, State Rep., District
78; Lori Berman, State Rep., District 86; Jeff Clemens State Rep., District 83; Drew
Martin, Soil and Water Conservation District; Paulette Burdick, County Commission,
District 2; Karen Brill, School Board, District 3.

IV. Minutes: The minutes for the October 7, 2010 meeting were approved.

V. Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Bob Diffenderfer’s Report for the period of October 1
through October 31, 2010 was approved.

VI. Introductions and Presentations: Candidates: Hava Holzhauer, State Rep.,


District 87;

Legislative Aides: Dan Liftman for U.S. Congressman Alcee Hasting; Wendi Lipsich
for U.S. Congressman Ted Deutch

VII. Reports:

Officers: Chairman Siegel introduced a new D.E.C. Member, Carole Silverstein and she was
elected to fill the vacancy in precinct # 5047 for the balance of the present term.

Vice Chair Terrie Rizzo read a letter for Congressman Ron Klein thanking all Democrats for
their hard work. A copy of the letter is to be inserted in the Minute Book.
A Report from Richard Ingman, Director of Reporting and Evaluation was read. It’s very
preliminary conclusion is that Palm Beach County performed above average, but not by
enough to power a state wide victory.
Dave and Brenda Schumacher reported on the Toys for Tots/Children’s Medical Services
drives which will climax at the December meeting.
Vice Chair Terrie Rizzo reported on the upcoming Holiday party to be held on December 14 at
6 PM at Club 10 in West Palm Beach Don’t miss this exciting night to be a Democrat!

Legislative Committee: Mae Yates: Several resolutions were tendered concerning the support
of Independent candidates by elected Democrats. The Committee was instructed to report
on the resolutions at the nest meeting.
VIII. Unfinished Business: Bylaw Amendment Concerning the Diversity Committee The
resolution was proposed, after due notice, and an explanation was offered. After the
proposed amendment was read aloud a final time and a discussion was held, an
amendment was offered and adopted concerning the outreach to women and the GLBGT
community.
The final amendment as adopted is as follows:
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Palm Beach County Democratic Party Executive
Committee Bylaws, Article V, Section 2, Section (h), be amended as follows:
A. “Affirmative Action Committee” be changed to: “ Ethnic & Diversity Committee”; and
B. “Shall review the composition of the D.E.C., its officers and committees, and recommend
to the D.E.C. actions, including the appointment of new members, which will ensure
equitable representation of all persons and groups as to political, minority, demographic,
economic, and geographic consideration.”

“In order to ensure equitable representation of all persons and groups regardless of
political, minority, demographic, economic, gender, sexual, and geographic
considerations, the committee shall acknowledge persons of foreign birth or descent,
also known as ethnic communities, women, and gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and
transgender people; heighten the visibility of ethnic communities, women, and gays,
lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people as core constituencies of the Democratic
Party; restore and exceed the ethnic base vote in elections; ensure that the Party’s
message speaks to and resonates with ethnic communities, women, and gays, lesbians,
bisexuals, and transgender people; and recommend actions to the Palm Beach County
Democratic Party Executive Committee as appropriate.”

IX. New Business: Each of the newly elected State Representatives and several candidates and
members addressed the meeting.

X. Announcements Elections for officers of this executive Committee will be held at the
December 2, 2010 meeting. The meeting will be held at Temple Emeth at 7 PM.

XI. Motion to Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
