OBJECTIVE:
-To determine the purpose of access point
- To define what is access point
-To know what can be use in the access point
DISCUSSION:
In computer networking, a wireless access point (WAP), or more generally just access point (AP),
is a networking hardware device that allows other Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired network. The
AP usually connects to a router (via a wired network) as a standalone device, but it can also be an
integral component of the router itself. An AP is differentiated from a hotspot, which is the physical
location where Wi-Fi access to a WLAN is available.
Repeater
OBJECTIVE:
-To determine the purpose of Repeater
- To define what is Repeater
-To know what can be use in the Repeater
DISCUSSION:
In telecommunications, a repeater is an electronic device that receives a signal and retransmits it.
Repeaters are used to extend transmissions so that the signal can cover longer distances or be
received on the other side of an obstruction. Some types of repeaters broadcast an identical signal,
but alter its method of transmission, for example, on another frequency or baud rate.
There are several different types of repeaters; a telephone repeater is an amplifier in a telephone
line, an optical repeater is an optoelectronic circuit that amplifies the light beam in an optical fiber
cable; and a radio repeater is a radio receiver and transmitter that retransmits a radio signal.
A broadcast relay station is a repeater used in broadcast radio and television.
OBJECTIVE:
-To determine the purpose of switch managed and unmanaged
- To define what is switch managed and unmanaged
-To know what can be use in the switch managed and unmanaged
DISCUSSION:
Managed Ethernet switches have more capability than unmanaged switches, but
they also require a skilled administrator or engineer to make the most of them. A
managed switch enables you to have better control of your network and all the
data frames moving through it. Unmanaged switches, on the other hand, enable
connected devices to communicate with one another in their most basic form.
Unmanaged Ethernet switches
Unmanaged switches use autonegotiated ports to determine parameters such as
the data rate and whether to use half-duplex or full-duplex mode. Additionally,
unmanaged switches have no concept of virtual LANs (VLANs). Thus, all devices
belong to the same broadcast domain.
Spanning Tree Protocol support for switch and link redundancy without
creating loops;
VLAN support;
bandwidth rate limiting; and
port mirroring.
network interface card
OBJECTIVE:
-To determine the purpose of network interface card
- To define what is network interface card
-To know what can be use in the network interface card
DISCUSSION:
A network interface card (NIC) is a hardware component without which a computer cannot
be connected over a network. It is a circuit board installed in a computer that provides a
dedicated network connection to the computer. It is also called network interface controller,
network adapter or LAN adapter.
EVALUATION:
Both wired and wireless connections
