Water Cycle Lesson Plan

Objective:

The student will be able to depict and name the four steps of the water cycle.

2nd Grade TEKS

(8) Earth and space. The student knows that there are recognizable

patterns in the natural world and among objects in the sky. The

student is expected to:

(C) explore the processes in the water cycle, including evaporation,

condensation, and precipitation, as connected to weather conditions

Materials:

KWL Chart

Water Cycle Poster

Lyrics to the song: “The Water Cycle” by Lauren Mayer

Paper

Crayons

Procedures:

1. Teacher will review what the students know about the water cycle using a KWL chart. Encourage

students to give what they Know and what they Want to know about the water cycle.

2. Teacher will explain the steps of the Water Cycle using a visual chart.
3. Teacher will introduce the lyrics of the song “The Water Cycle” and have students

practice singing the song to help internalize the steps of the water cycle.

4. Complete L part of the KWL chart.

Assessment:

The students will be asked to draw representations of the four steps of the water cycle and

name them, using given labels.
