A. Installation

Verify and ensure that equipment and cables are properly installed and
SAES-T-916,
A1 in compliance with the Manufacturer's requirements, Saudi Aramco
para. 6.2
Engineering Standards, Industry Codes and the Detailed Plan.

Ensure and verify the cable size and type is in accordance with the
approved IFC drawings prior commencing the cable pulling activities and Schedule "Q"
A2
shall conform to all applicable requirements, standards, and Attachment lV
specifications prior to release to be used as part of

Verify that the installed cable is as one of the four recognized and most
suitable cable types that shall be used for backbone systems:
• 62.5/125 microns optical fiber or 50/125 microns multi mode optical
SAES-T-916,
A3 fiber.
para. 4.6.2.1
• Single mode optical fiber.
• 100 ohms balanced twisted pair CAT 6.
• 150 ohms shielded

Ensure that the total length of transmission cable between the TR cross-
SAES-T-916,
A4 connect and the intermediate cross-connect is not exceeding 500 m
para. 4.6.3
(1640 ft) for data applications.

Ensure that bonding and grounding of all non-network members of SAES-T-916,

A5
backbone cable and associated equipment is made to a TGB or TMGB. para. 4.6.5.3

Ensure that Backbone cables are not spliced in pathways (raceways, SAES-T-916,
A6
conduits, trays, trunking) in ceilings and under raised floors. para. 4.6.7

Verify cable splice points are placed in an area designated for cable
SAES-T-916,
A7 splice closures in telecommunication room (entrance facility, equipment
para. 4.6.7
room or TR).

Ensure the splice point is accessible to cable technicians at floor level SAES-T-916,
A8
and supported by cable racks. para. 4.6.7

Verify that performance testing and inspection for Backbone Cabling

(UTP, STP and Fiber Optic) and connectors is accomplished in SAES-T-916,
A9
accordance to SAES-T-634 (Telecommunications Cable Testing & para. 4.6.8
Acceptance) EIA TIA-568A.

Verify that electrical power cabling is not routed directly alongside

SAES-T-916,
A10 communications cable (electrical cabling is usually in conduit, providing
para. 4.7.5.1
additional shielding).

Verify that telecommunication cable is not placed within 1.8 m (6 ft) of SAES-T-916,
A11
any lightning protection system components. para. 4.7.5.1

Ensure that a bonding conductor is installed along a non- shielded SAES-T-916,

A12
backbone cable pathway. para. 4.7.5.1

within Saudi Aramco for primary protection devices when designing or SAES-T-887,
A14
constructing new facilities where the ground potential rise (GPR) does para. 4.2.2
not exceed 350 V.

SAES-T-634,
A15 Ensure that the required cable testing is performed and documented.
para. 5.6

Verify that identification cable tags are attached to each cable on each SAES-T-632,
A16
end. para. 5

Verify that all cabling are tested and accepted for the category rating
SAES-T-916,
A17 (category 6) of the cabling. Refer to EIA TIA-568A and EIA TSB-7 for
para. 4.10
required performance testing.

Verify and ensure that the amount of untwisted for UTP cabling shall not SAES-T-916,
A18
exceed 13mm (0.5 inches) for CAT 6. para. 4.8.6

Verify that all materials and debris are removed from the SAES-T-916,
A19
telecommunications facility and the construction site. para. 6.4

Verify that if the transmission cable is 62.5 mMicron Fiber, then the SAES-T-916,
A20 maximum length from the closet to the main cross-connect is 2000m para. 4.6.3, Table
(6560 ft.) is not exceeded. 10

Verify that all excess materials and debris are removed from the SAES-T-916,
A21
telecommunication facility and the construction site. para. 6.4

Verify that connections between any two telecommunication closets shall

not pass through more than three cross-connects (not including the SAES-T-916,
A22
cross-connects between the backbone and the horizontal wiring in the para. 4.5.2.2
TCs.

SAES-T-916,
A23 Verify the firestopping of the backbone system.
para. 4.6.5.4

Verify that if the transmission cable is 100-Ohm Unshielded Twisted Pair SAES-T-916,
A24 (UTP), then the maximum length from the closet to the main cross- para. 4.6.3, Table
connect is 800 m (2,630 ft) is not exceeded. 10

Verify that if the transmission cable is Single-Mode Fiber, then the SAES-T-916,
A25 maximum length from the closet to the main cross-connect is 3,000 m para. 4.6.3, Table
(8,200 ft) is not exceeded. 10

Verify that the methods used to properly secure vertical backbone cable
is as one of the listed below :
• Brackets and Verticle cable racks
SAES-T-916,
A26 • Toggle bolts
para. 4.6.5.2
• Clamps
• Straps (steel or plastic)
• Masonry hardware

Ensure that backbone cables are not spliced in pathways (raceways, SAES-T-916,
A27
conduits, trays, trunking) in ceilings and under raised floors. para. 4.6.7
