1.

World Wide Web- is a network of links on the Internet to files containing texts,
graphics, video and sound.
2. Knowledge Management System- is an organized collection of people,
procedures, software, databases and devices that stores and retrieves knowledge,
improves collaboration, locates knowledge sources captures and uses
knowledge, or in some other way enhances the knowledge management process.
3. Mobile Commerce- is the buying and selling of goods and/or services using a
mobile device, such as a tablet, smartphone, or other portable device.
4. Business Process Reengineering- involves the radical redesign of business
processes, organizational structures, information systems, and values of the
organization to achieve a breakthrough in business results.
5. Change Management- involves the radical redesign of business processes,
organizational structures, information systems, and values of the organization to
achieve a breakthrough in business results.
6. Hard disk drive- is a direct access storage device used to store and retrieve data
from rapidly rotating disks coated with magnetic material.
7. Integrated circuit- is a set of electronic circuits on one small piece of
semiconductor material, normally silicon.
8. Network attached storage- is a hard disk drive storage device that is set up with
its own network address and provides file-based storage services to other devices
on the network.
9. Radio frequency identification- is a technology that employs a microchip with an
antenna to broadcast its unique identifier and location to receivers.
10. Random Access Memory (RAM)- are volatile storage devices, meaning they
lose their contents if the current is turned off or disrupted, which can be caused by
a power surge, brownout, or electrical noise generated by lightning or nearby
machines.
11. Read Only Memory (ROM)- is nonvolatile, meaning that its contents are not lost if
the power is turned off or interrupted. ROM provides permanent storage for data
and instructions that do not change, such as programs and data from the computer
manufacturer, including the instructions that tell the computer how to start up when
power is turned on.
12. Redundant array of independent/inexpensive disks- is a method of storing
data that generates extra bits of data from existing data, allowing the system to
create a “reconstruction map” so that if a hard drive fails, it can rebuild lost data.
13. Solid State Storage device- stores data in memory chips rather than on hard
disk drives or optical media. These memory chips require less power and provide
much faster data access than magnetic data storage devices.
14. Storage Area Network- is a high-speed, special-purpose network that integrates
different types of data storage devices into a single storage system and connects
that to computing resources across an entire organization.
15. Application Programming Interface- is a set of programming instructions and
standards that enable one software program to access and use the services of
another software program.
16. Enterprise Application Integration- The systematic tying together of disparate
applications, often through the use of middleware, is known as enterprise
application integration (EAI). IIt is implemented to address situations in which a
company acquires different types of information systems—often through mergers,
acquisitions, or expansion—that need to share data and interact.
17. Graphical User Interface- displays pictures (called icons) and menus that people
use to send commands to the computer system. GUIs are more intuitive to use
than command-based interfaces because they try to anticipate the user’s needs
and they provide easy-to-recognize options.
18. Operating System- is a set of programs that controls a computer’s hardware and
acts as an interface with application software
19. Rich Internet Application- A Web-delivered application combines hardware
resources of the Web server and the PC to deliver valuable software services
through a browser interface.
20. Service Oriented Architecture- is a software design approach based on the use
of discrete pieces of software to provide specific functions as services to other
applications.
21. Data Definition Language- is a collection of instructions and commands used to
define and describe data and relationships in a specific database.
22. Data Lifecycle Management- is a policy-based approach to managing the flow
of an enterprise’s data, from its initial acquisition or creation and storage to the
time when it becomes outdated and is deleted.
23. Database Administrators- design and set up databases to meet an organization’s
needs. DBAs ensure that the data bases operate efficiently, and they perform fine-
tuning, upgrading, and testing modifications as needed.

24. Database as a Service- database is stored on a service provider’s servers and

accessed by the service subscriber over the Internet, with the database
administration handled by the service provider.
25. Database Management System- used to track orders, products, and customers;
analyze weather data to make forecasts; and summarize medical research results.
26. Cascading Style Sheet- is a file or portion of an HTML file that defines the visual
appearance of content in a Web page.
27. Extensible Markup Language- a markup language for Web documents
containing structured information, including words and pictures. XML does not
have a predefined tag set.
28. Hypertext Markup Language- is the standard page description language for Web
pages. HTML is defined by the World Wide Web Consortium and has developed
through numerous revisions. It is currently in its fifth revision which is HTML5.
29. Long term Evolution- is a standard for wireless communications for mobile
phones based on packet switching, which is an entirely different approach from the
circuit-switching approach employed in 3G communications networks.
30. Local Area Network- A network that connects computer systems and devices
within a small area, such as an office, home, or several floors in a building.
31. Metropolitan Area Network- is a network that connects users and their
computers in a geographical area that spans a campus or city.
32. Personal Area Network- is a wireless network that connects information
technology devices close to one person.
33. Software Defined Networking- is an emerging approach to networking that
allows network administrators to manage a network via a controller that does not
require physical access to all the network devices.
34. Uniform Resource Locator- is a Web address that specifies the exact location of
a Web page using letters and words that map to an IP address and a location on
the host.
35. Virtual Private Network- a secure connection between two points on the Internet.
