Semester 2 Tahun Akademik 2019-2020
TOPIK : Potensial Elektrostatik dan Kapasitor

A. PERTANYAAN

1. (24, Q4) Figure 24-27 gives the electric potential as a function of

. (a) Rank the five regions according to the magnitude of the
component of the electric field within them, greatest first. What is the
direction of the field along the axis in (b) region 2 and (c) region 4?

2. (24, Q3) Figure 24-26 shows four pairs of charged

particles. For each pair, let = 0 at infinity and
consider at points on the x axis. For which
pairs is there a point at which = 0 (a)
between the particles and (b) to the right of the
particles? (c) At such a point is ⃗ due to the
particles equal to zero? (d) For each pair, are there
off-axis points (other than at infinity) where = 0?

3. (24, Q11) Figure 24-32 shows a thin, uniformly charged rod and three
points at the same distance d from the rod. Rank the magnitude of the
electric potential the rod produces at those three points, greatest first.

4. (25, Q5) Initially, a single capacitance C1 is wired to a battery. Then capacitance C2 is added in parallel. Are
(a) the potential difference across C1 and (b) the charge q1 on C1 now more than, less than, or the same as
previously? (c) Is the equivalent capacitance C12 of C1 and C2 more than, less than, or equal to C1? (d) Is the
charge stored on C1 and C2 together more than, less than, or equal to the charge stored previously on C1?

5. (25, Q9) A parallel-plate capacitor is connected to a battery of electric potential difference V. If the plate
separation is decreased, do the following quantities increase, decrease, or remain the same: (a) the capacitor’s
capacitance, (b) the potential difference across the capacitor, (c) the charge on the capacitor, (d) the energy
stored by the capacitor, (e) the magnitude of the electric field between the plates, and (f) the energy density of
that electric field?

B. SOAL

1. (24, P18) Two charged particles are shown in Fig. 24-

39a. Particle 1, with charge , is fixed in place at
distance . Particle 2, with charge , can be moved
along the x axis. Figure 24-39b gives the net electric
potential at the origin due to the two particles as a
function of the coordinate of particle 2. The scale of
the x axis is set by = 16.0 cm. The plot has an
asymptote of = 5.76 × 10 V as → ∞. What is in terms of ?

2. (24, P20) Two particles, of charges and , are separated by distance
in Fig. 24-40. The net electric field due to the particles is zero at = /4.
With = 0 at infinity, locate (in terms of ) any point on the x axis (other
than at infinity) at which the electric potential due to the two particles is
zero.

3. (24, P23) (a) Figure 24-42a shows a nonconducting rod of length

= 6.00 cm and uniform linear charge density = +3.68 pC/m.
Assume that the electric potential is defined to be = 0 at infinity.
What is at point P at distance = 8.00 cm along the rod’s
perpendicular bisector? (b) Figure 24-42b shows an identical rod
except that one half is now negatively charged. Both halves have
a linear charge density of magnitude 3.68 pC/m .With
= 0 at infinity, what is at P?

4. (24, P29) In Fig. 24-48, what is the net electric potential at the origin due to the
circular arc of charge = 7.21 pC and the two particles of charges = 4.00
and = −2.00 ? The arc’s center of curvature is at the origin and its radius is
= 2.00 m; the angle indicated is = 20.0°.

5. (24, P80) Figure 24-64 shows a ring of outer radius = 13.0 cm , inner radius
= 0.200 , and uniform surface charge density = 6.20 pC/m . With = 0 at
infinity, find the electric potential at point P on the central axis of the ring, at distance
= 2.00 from the center of the ring.

6. (25, P27) Figure 25-42 shows a 12.0 V battery and four uncharged capacitors of
capacitances = 1.00 mF, = 2.00 mF, = 3.00 mF, and = 4.00 mF. If only
switch S1 is closed, what is the charge on (a) capacitor 1, (b) capacitor 2, (c) capacitor
3, and (d) capacitor 4? If both switches are closed, what is the charge on (e) capacitor 1,
(f) capacitor 2, (g) capacitor 3, and (h) capacitor 4?

7. (25, P66) A cylindrical capacitor has inner and outer radii a and b, respectively. Show that half the stored electric
potential energy lies within a cylinder whose radius is = √ .

8. (25, P55) The space between two concentric conducting spherical shells of radii = 1.70 cm and = 1.20 cm
is filled with a substance of dielectric constant = 23.5. A potential difference = 73.0 V is applied across
the inner and outer shells. Determine (a) the capacitance of the device, (b) the free charge q on the inner shell,
and (c) the charge q’ induced along the surface of the inner shell.

9. (25, P45) A certain parallel-plate capacitor is filled with a dielectric for which = 5.5. The area of each plate
is 0.034 m2, and the plates are separated by 2.0 mm. The capacitor will fail (short out and burn up) if the electric
field between the plates exceeds 200 kN/C. What is the maximum energy that can be stored in the capacitor?

10. (25, P70) A slab of copper of thickness = 2.00 mm is thrust into a parallel
plate capacitor of plate area = 2.40 cm2 and plate separation = 5.00 mm,
as shown in Fig. 25-57; the slab is exactly halfway between the plates.
(a) What is the capacitance after the slab is introduced? (b) If a charge
= 3.40 mC is maintained on the plates, what is the ratio of the stored
energy before to that after the slab is inserted? (c) How much work is done
on the slab as it is inserted? (d) Is the slab sucked in or must it be pushed in?
