VACANCY 

NEPHAK is a national network that unites people living with, at risk of and affected with HIV and related co-
infections and comorbidities through community based organizations such as post-test clubs, support groups, men’s
associations, carers associations, women groups, youth groups and non-governmental organizations including
PLHIV networks. NEPHAK works in partnership with relevant government departments and structures, and civil
society organizations to improve the health and well-being of communities in Kenya.

NEPHAK has extensive experience implementing comprehensive community based HIV care, prevention, and
treatment in both urban slums and rural areas of Kenya. The network has years of experience working with the
National AIDS Control Council (NACC), the National AIDS & STIs Control Programme (NACSOP) and the
National Leprosy, TB and Lung Disease Unit at local community and national levels, and in strengthening the
capacity of people living with HIV and communities affected by AIDS, TB and Malaria to deliver integrated
community-based health care.

The core focus of NEPHAK is to mobilize, build the capacity and enhance participation of PLHIV and affected
communities through their groups and networks in the national initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of TB and
HIV. NEPHAK works closely with government of Kenya (GOK) ministries and departments at county and
national levels as well as with like-minded non state actors to achieve its national mandate and serve her
membership.

NEPHAK is a sub-recipient of the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria (under Kenya Red Cross as the
Principal Recipient), and is currently implementing a GF NFM grant in West Pokot with a goal of contributing
towards achieving Vision 2030 through universal access to comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment and care for
all.

NEPHAK is currently recruiting a Data Clerk to be based in West Pokot. The West Pokot module is a
comprehensive programme for sex workers and their clients through nationally approved package of interventions.

DATA CLERK (1 Position)


Location: West Pokot
Job Description
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
● In liaison with the Program Officer, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer and Field Officer prepare
source documents for entry by compiling and sorting information; and establishing entry priorities.
● Review and verify source documents from the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs),
Peer Educators, Health Facilities for discrepancies; by using standard operating
procedures (SOPs), and returning incomplete documents to the CHVs, peer Educators and
Health Facilities for resolution.
● Enter and account data by inputting information in the database provided by the P.O.
Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, and according to the Procedures.
● Maintain data entry requirements by following data management techniques and
procedures.
● Verify data entries by reviewing, correcting, deleting, or reentering data; purging files to
eliminate duplication of data; and comparing it to source documents.
● Retrieve data from the database or electronic files as requested
● In liaison with P.O. Monitoring & Evaluation Officer Perform regular backups to ensure
data preservation
● Sort and organize paperwork after entering data to ensure it is not lost
● Maintain data management operations by following data management policies and
procedures; and keeping information confidential.
● Assist in compilation of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual and ad-hoc program
reports.
● Undertake any other duty as assigned

Minimum Requirements

● Minimum of a Diploma in applied statistics, health records and information


technology or equivalent
● Proven experience in undertaking data entry and managing key population data for
NGO
● Devotion to thoroughness and accuracy, attention to detail, ability to work in a team
setting.
● Speedy, accurate data entry skills
● Ability to maintain confidentiality of medical records and observe good clinical
practice.
● Basic skills in data analysis using Ms Excel, SPSS, STATA, SAS
● Be able to work with professionalism and minimal supervision
● Member or a friend of key population

NEPHAK Working Conditions


The position involves the need to provide technical support in data management. There may be periods that require
the jobholder to work odd hours when necessary to meet deadlines or respond to specific situations.
