12, 2020

To The People of Denver,

On Monday February 10, 2020, we, the individual City Council People of Denver voted in favor of Bill 20-071,
an ordinance amending section 8-67 of the Denver Revised Municipal Code requiring a provisional breed-
restricted license for owners of pitbulls.

We hereby affirm awareness and understanding that:
1) The pitbull ban was enacted in reaction to the murder of Denver resident Fernando Salazar, at the age
of 3 years old on October 26, 1986. The ban was enacted, for a number of reasons, including to
prevent the death of a Denver citizen by a pit bull attack.
2) Since the implementation of the pitbull ban, there have been zero reported deaths of Denver citizens
as a result of a pitbull attack.
3) On the same day that we voted for this bill, a 5 year old boy was murdered by a pitbull in Los Angeles, a
city where pit-bulls are not banned https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2020/02/10/5-year-old-

We hereby personally and unconditionally swear to the people of Denver that:
1) Bill 20-071 will create for a safer city than currently exists in Denver related to pitbull attacks
2) At a minimum, the results from the passage of this bill will meet the safety levels previously attained
prior to the passage of this bill, of zero deaths to Denver residents as a result of a pitbull attack.
