THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

In the field of electrical engineering, there are many of things that should be
understand and not take to consideration. Electrical engineering is the one of the hardest
and harmful course in the field of engineering due to the nature of the job, bits of
information, Electrical Engineers works to design and test electrical equipment and
system such as electronic controls system, communication system and power generators.
They also managed various design projects and perform cost estimated. Electrical
engineer can earn a significant salary straight out of college but may discover it’s very
competitive field and a lengthy licensing process as well. Though Electrical Engineering
offers desirable advantages, it also comes with personal risk and mild job security
concerns. However, the advantages of a career Electrical engineering can certainly
overcome the disadvantages for someone interested in the field.

The study that the researchers conducted are about the risk that an electrical engineering
carried out. And the researchers will have an information from the respondents on how
they really ready to the real life work. And how the schools of Engineering prepared
themselves in the mentioned course. Students of today, that will take this course should
know more about the body of Electrical Engineering and how this work benefit someone
and dangers that will be facing on in taking this course.

CHAPTER II

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

This chapter deals with the identification of documents containing information

related to the study. Theories and studies gathered provide necessary information and

details that are significant and of relevance to the formulation of basic grounds of the

problems and possible solutions needed. In addition, it provides a deeper understanding

about the topic, thus making the proponent of the study more acquainted with the problem.

Analysis is done throughout the learning of the related studies and literature to which the

present study is correlated. Aside from that, this chapter also deals with the conceptual

framework which establishes the relationship between the variables and the definition of

variables used in the study.

In any case, power is possibly hazardous, and little missteps frequently prompt

electrical shocks. Circuit repairmen get years of preparing before they can work, however

their preparation does not keep all wounds. Divider outlets are conceivably perilous, and

water on electrical gadgets can bring out electrical shock too. (David Dakarai,2016)

It is the level of voltage the body is exposed to and the resistance to flow of electrical

current offered by the body that determines the impact of exposure to electricity. The

following factors determine the severity of the effect electric shock has on your body. The

level of voltage, the amount of body resistance you have to the current flow, the path the

current takes through your body, the length of time the current flows through your

body.

If a worker has come into contact with electricity the worker may not be able to remove

themselves from the electrical source. The human body is a good conductor of electricity.

If you touch a person while they are in contact with the electrical source, the electricity will

flow through your body causing electrical shock. Firstly attempt to turn off the source of

the electricity (disconnect). If the electrical source can not readily and safely be turned off,

use a non-conducting object, such as a fibreglass object or a wooden pole, to remove the

person from the electrical source. ( 2019 Health & Safety Authority)

All electrical equipment and installations should be maintained to prevent danger.

Columban College Barretto

This should include an appropriate system of visual inspection and, where necessary,

testing. By concentrating on a simple, inexpensive system of looking for visible signs of

damage or faults, most of the electrical risks can be controlled.

It is recommended that fixed installations are inspected and tested periodically by a

competent person. The frequency of inspections and any necessary testing will depend on

the type of installation, how often it is used, and the environment in which it is used.

Users can help by reporting any damage or defects they find.

Ensure that people who are working with electricity are competent to do the job. Even

simple tasks such as wiring a plug can lead to danger - ensure that people know what they

are doing before they start.( 2019 Health & Safety Authority)

The average salary for an Electrical Engineer is Php 20,929 per month in the Philippines.

Salary estimates are based on 481 salaries submitted anonymously to Indeed by Electrical

Engineer employees, users, and collected from past and present job advertisements on

Indeed in the past 36 months. The typical tenure for an Electrical Engineer is less than 1

year.(2019 Indeed)

Preparing a Safety Statement and keeping it up to date is considered a most important step

in managing health and safety in the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering.

Our Safety Statement is based on the principle that safety can be managed because most

accidents are foreseeable and can usually be prevented. The Statement must be prepared

after hazards have been identified and an assessment of the risks in the workplace has been

carried out. It must also include a list of the control measures that are taken to remove these

risks and where that cannot be done, to reduce the risks, to the lowest possible level.(Trinity

College Dublin, the University of Dublin)

Electrical engineering deals with the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization

of electricity. It also deals with the design, operation and protection, maintenance and

economics of electrical systems, with emphasis on ethical values to harness economically

and safely the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of society and the environment.

The Department, as its continuing objective, provides the students with the necessary

training, technical support facility and guidance to help them complete their degrees. With

the combination of technical education and "hands-on" experience in an industry internship

program, the students will graduate both well educated and trained, and are assured of a

productive life as UE College students.(University of the east caloocan campus)

Conceptual Framework

The framework that can best describe the study is the ... This is shown in Figure 1

Figure 1. The research paradigm of the study

On this table, the researchers want to indicate how the variables affect the

preparedness on the field of work. In the field of Electrical engineering there are two ways

to gain knowledge with. Through Lectures and Experience. The researchers want to know

from the respondents the best way to gain knowledge and the answer of the respondents

will be the foundation of this research.

Hypothesis of the Study Tested

The hypotheses used in this study are the following:

1. The researchers' hypothetically think that there is differences between learnings and

Experience that got by the students of E.E.;

2. The researchers' hypothetically think that the students of E.E is well informed in

terms of risk and security;

3. The researchers' hypothetically think that the fresh graduate of E.E is well informed

in terms of security;

4. The researchers' hypothetically think that the licensed E.E is well informed in terms

of security;

5. The researchers' hypothetically think that being a E.E. is a risky and hazardous due

to high voltage circuit.;

Definition of Variables

To provide a clearer understanding for this study, the following words are defined

operationally and conceptually.

Electrical Engineer - It is the branch of engineering that deals with the

technology of electricity. Electrical engineers work on a wide range of components,

devices and systems, from tiny microchips to huge power station generators.

Risk - a situation involving exposure to danger.

Risk Prevention - the process of avoiding risk or reducing the probability and

impact of risk.

Licensed Seasoned Engineer - It means you've got the credentials to earn their
trust. To an employer, it signals your ability to take on a higher level of responsibility.
Among your colleagues, it demands respect. To yourself, it's a symbol of pride and
measure of your own hard-won achievement.

CHAPTER III

METHODS OF RESEARCH

This chapter presents the methods and techniques used in the study, the population

of the respondents for the study, the research instrument, the data gathering procedures,

and the data processing and statistical treatment utilized in analyzing and interpreting the

results of the study.

Methods and Techniques of the Study

Qualitative methodology was chosen for this study in order to attempt to capture

some information from the interviewees regarding to the questions that the researchers will

accord.

According to QRSA(Qualitative research consultants association) Qualitative research is

designed to reveal a target audience’s range of behavior and the perceptions that drive it

with reference to specific topics or issues. It uses in-depth studies of small groups of people

to guide and support the construction of hypotheses. The results of qualitative research are

descriptive rather than predictive.

Qualitative Research defined by Crossman(2019) she stated that a qualitative research is a

type of social science research that collects and works with non-numerical data and that

seeks to interpret meaning from these data that help us understand social life through the

study of targeted populations or places. People often frame it in opposition to quantitative

research, which uses numerical data to identify large-scale trends and employs statistical

operations to determine causal and correlative relationships between variables.

Columban College Barretto
Basic Education Department
Olongapo City 13
Qualitative research according to Denzin and Lincoln (2005) is a multimethod in focus,

involving an interpretative, naturalistic approach to its subject matter. This means that

qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings, attempting to make sense of,

or interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them. Qualitative research

involves the studied use and collection of a variety of empirical materials – case study,

personal experience, introspective, life story, interview, observational, historical,

interactional, and visual texts – that describe routine and problematic moments and

meanings in individuals’ lives.

The current study is a small-scale, exploratory study, in which we carried out semi-

structured interviews with a professional engineer who has long in service in his field. Also

we gathered one engineer student who has been taking this course. This can help the study

to further understand the course and how to be well-informed student(freshman) in taking

the course.

Qualitative research in other hand is a research that collects data from the respected

respondents. It is a research where the researchers collecting the given data from an

procedure of interviewing. Also, it is also an example of investigating something and

understand more deeply the phenomenon. This method also answers the researchers

hypothetical questions from the research. Any answers of the respondents will be interpret

honestly.

The data that will be collected from the respondents will be interpret through papers.

Data Gathering Procedure

To start the study we will prepare an step-by-step procedure for us to communicate with

the selected respondents. We will make a letter, that indicate the approval of the

respondents to be interviewed. The interviews were carried out by the researchers using a

semi-structure interview. the interview covers (a)the life of an engineer(b) the ways to

achieve a good learnings(c) and to gather some tips for the becoming students who will

take the course

The researcher did the following procedures in the conduct of the study:

1. The researchers will make a letter, indicate the approval of the respondents to be

interviewed.

2. Prepared a semi-structured questions that answers the questions from the study.

3. Made an appointment from each respondents that researchers selected.

4. Conduct the study.
