People were basically agriculturists. They used to have two time cultivation in a year. One was Carib
crop and Rabbi Crops. All the lakes were ment for providing water for cultivation. Beside planting paddy
they also used to plant vegetables as well (potetto, Beans, chilly, etc).

People staying near sea-shore were fishing. They had their own boats. At present only 3% of people are

Some feasts:

St. Sabastian Feast: Novena starts on 11th of January and ends on 26th of January with feast day
celebration. It is celebrated only by the Mendonsa family. That day they go by procession to church and
they have Feast day Mass. They carry the picture of St. Sabastian on Horse. The reason this feast
celebration started was, in the olden days people used to get small pox disease and were not getting
cured. Children as well as elders were dying there was no proper medicine to cure them. So they started
to pray to St. Sabastian and the disease slowly reduced therefore they each year celebrate this St.
Sabastian feast.

St. Michel’s feast: It celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of the month of May. This feast supposed to be
celebrated on St. Michel’s feast day itself but it is celebrated other day because other time people
are busy doing various works like people go for boating and children have their schools. It is
mostly celebrated by the low class people. In preparation for this feast there is 10 days of
novena. People wear blue garments.
