IELTS Information

Applying for the Exam


To apply for the exam, you must mail or bring to Global Village:
• a completed signed application (Registrations cannot be submitted by fax, telephone or email ),
• 2 passport pictures. These MUST be signed on the back (these must be current photos taken in the last 6
months)
• a photocopy of your valid passport* (the page with your photo and personal information) AND a photocopy of
the passport expiry date. Please note that expired passports WILL NOT be accepted.
• full payment** (exam, postage, book, etc).
We ONLY accept passports; we DO NOT accept any other form of ID i.e.: Driver’s License. Applications are
processed in the order they are received.

*****APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED UNLESS ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE INCLUDED WITH YOUR
APPLICATION FORM.

*Passports are the ONLY acceptable form of identification. It is your responsibility to have your VALID passport with
you on the day of the test. If your passport has been sent away for visa purposes, or has expired and you are not
able to present a valid passport on the day of the test, you WILL NOT be permitted to write the test, nor will you be
permitted to transfer your test day or receive a refund. No other form of identification can be accepted.

General Training or Academic


It is your responsibility to find out which test you need to write. The IELTS Test Center/Global Village Calgary is not
able to make any inquiries for you or suggest which test you should write. Both the General Training and Academic
tests are pen and paper.

**Fees and Postage


The exam fee is $245. If you need a copy of your results sent to a company or government agency, there is a postage
charge of $3 within Canada and/or $5 outside of Canada for each company or government agency.

**IELTS Specimen Materials


We also sell the official IELTS Specimen book which contains sample questions of all of parts of the exam. The
purchase of the book is optional. The price of the specimen is $35. There is a postage fee of $3 if applicable.

Payment Format
Payment for any of the above can be made by credit card authorization, money order ( payable to
IELTS Administrator) or in person by cash or debit. We do not accept personal cheques.

Exam Details
Once we receive and process your application, we will send you BY E-MAIL a confirmation letter stating the exam
day details. Please read your confirmation letter carefully as there is very important information you need for
the test. You can apply for any test date at any time depending on seat availability. For more information about

Global Village IELTS Courses

IELTS Full Time Course (4/8/12 week course available)

This course will allow students to improve their English skills in an academic context. The IELTS exam
sets the tone for the full-time course, allowing students to familiarize themselves with the exam through
listening, reading, writing, speaking, vocabulary and grammar practice. There will be a minimum of 3
practice tests per study block. This course will focus on the academic nature of the exam.

IELTS Evening Course*

This IELTS Test preparation course will thoroughly familiarize candidates with the IELTS examination, as
well as provide candidates the opportunity to ask any questions they may have regarding the test. The
focus will be the Academic and/or General training module of the test as specific candidate needs warrant.

2008 Course Dates: October 21st- November 18th**


2009 Course Dates: February 17th- March 12th
Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Cost: $25.00 registration fee
$250.00 per 4 week session

* IELTS Evening Course is subject to a minimum of 8 registered students one week in advance of
courses.
* There will be NO evening class on Tuesday, November 11th due to the Remembrance Day holiday.

Pre-Test Course*
We offer a half day course Friday afternoon, the day before the first test of the month, for those who would
like to familiarize themselves with the exam. Each section of the test will be addressed, including a look at
a sample test with guided practice and feedback. The instructor will discuss both modules, Academic and
General, as needed.

CANCELLATION AND TRANSFER POLICY
Request for cancellation or postponement of your test must be made via e-mail, letter or fax ONLY.
Telephone cancellation or postponement will not be accepted.

Cancellation Policy

1. Cancellation more than 5 weeks ahead of the test date – candidate will receive full refund
(less $50.00 administrative fee).

2. Cancellation less than 5 weeks ahead of the test date – candidate will receive NO refund.

3. Failure to appear for the test without notification is considered a cancellation and NO refund will
be issued. The candidate must re-apply.

Transfer Policy

1. Request for Test Day Transfer must be made more than five weeks prior to the elected test date
(without penalty). Transfer dates will depend on availability.

2. Candidates who wish to transfer less than five weeks prior to the elected test date will be treated
as a cancellation and will receive NO refund, and must re-apply.

Candidates seeking cancellation or transfer within the five-week period prior to the test date will only
receive a refund if they can provide evidence that their ability to sit the test has been affected by serious
illness or cause:

Serious Illness – hospital admission or serious injury


Loss or bereavement – death of a close family member
Hardship/trauma – victim of crime, victim of traffic accident
Military service

Candidates must file an application for refund no later than five (5) working days after the test date. You
must complete a “Request for Refund or Test Day Transfer Form” and attach appropriate documentation
and/or evidence – medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner, a death notice or certificate or a
police report.

The “Request for Refund or Test Day Transfer Form” is available from the IELTS Test Centre.

Refunds
Refunds are paid by cheque and usually take three to four weeks from the date of the request to be
processed and mailed.

Absent on Test Day


If a candidate is absent on the day of the test, the candidate will lose the full test fee and must re-apply.

Late Arrival on Test Day


If a candidate is late on Test Day and the centre has been locked, the candidate will lose the full test fee
and must re-apply.
ENQUIRY ON RESULTS (EOR)

DEFINITION OF TERMS:

Enquiry on Results- the process by which candidates ask for one or more test modules
to be remarked by experienced Examiners and Senior Clerical Markers. This request is
made after the test results have been released and is designed to ensure candidate
performance has been accurately assessed.

GENERAL REGULATIONS:

Candidates are entitled to request a full re-mark (i.e. all test papers) or a partial re-mark
(i.e. one or more module) of their original results.
Candidates must submit all their requests for re-mark to the IELTS Centre Administrator
within six weeks of the test date.

PROCEDURE:

Candidates requesting a re-mark must:

1) Fill out an EOR form (available from the test centre)


2) Submit the original TRF (Test Result Form)
3) Pay a fee of $145.00 Cdn
4) Wait approximately six weeks to be notified of the results.

IMPROVEMENT IN SCORE:

Should a candidate be awarded a higher score than the original, a new Test Report
Form (TRF) will be issued by the Test Centre with the new score(s). A full refund, minus
an administration fee of $45.00, will be issued to the candidate.

NO IMPROVEMENT IN SCORE:

Should there be no improvement in score, the candidate will be notified. The original
TRF will be returned to the candidate and there will be no refund of the re-mark fee.
