Hand and Sitting Positions for Classical Guitar

Sitting Position
• The head of the guitar is at eye level (guitar is at a 45º angle)
• Face of guitar straight up and down (not angled back)
• Sit up straight and relax the shoulders and neck

Right Arm & Hand

• Right forearm rests on the guitar in front of the elbow
• Right wrist is straight with a relaxed arch
• Right hand plays around the rosette
• Right hand fingers move into the palm, not up and away
• Right hand thumb is in front of the fingers

Left Arm & Hand

• Left hand thumb is vertical and behind 2nd finger
• Left palm and knuckles are parallel with the strings
• Left wrist is straight, not over-extended
• Left hand fingers are curved and contact the strings on the fingertips

Comment tenir la guitare

La tenue de la guitare doit être étudiée avec soin. Il s’agit d’assurer la stabilité de
l’instrument sans entraver la liberté de mouvement des deux mains.

 Je m’assois sur le bord de la chaise, le dos

droit.
 Je pose le pied gauche sur le repose-pied.
 J’écarte la jambe droite et je pose la
guitare sur la cuisse gauche.
 Je regarde la tête de la guitare, et je la
relève jusqu'à la hauteur de mes yeux.
 Je pose mon avant-bras droit, près du
coude, sur le bord de la caisse.

 Et pour finir je prépare la main afin

de jouer.
 Je ferme la main presque
entièrement, comme si j’avais un
objet rond invisible à l’intérieur.
 Je pose les doigts sur les cordes que
je vais jouer.
