In recent years concent rat ed phot ovolt aic solar energy (CPV) has become one of t he most
promising renewable energy solut ions, mainly due t o t he high levels of efficiency t hat can be
achieved wit h t hese syst ems. However, t he efficiency of phot ovolt aic cells has a decreasing
t emperat ure charact erist ic and t he use of cooling is required. The main feat ure of HCPV syst ems
in relat ion t o t he heat problem is t he high heat flux in a small area (commonly less t han 1 cm2). In
t his sense, heat sinks using forced convect ion of liquids t hat flow inside mini and micro scale
channels have emerged as an effect ive t hermal management solut ion. This paper present s t he
experiment al evaluat ion of t he heat t ransfer coefficient and pressure drop of a rect angular cross
sect ion microchannel heat sink using dist illed wat er and 50 wt % dilut ed et hylene glycol as cooling
fluids in laminar flow. For t his, experiment al t est s were performed in a range of Reynolds number
and Prandt l of 100-2000 and 5-25, respect ively. Experiment al result s were compared t o t he main
correlat ions for det ermining Nusselt number and frict ion fact or and ot her experiment al dat a from
lit erat ure for single-phase laminar flow in microchannel heat sinks. Result s shown a maximum mean
difference of 15% for t he calculat ion of t he convect ive heat t ransfer coefficient , and 12% for
t he frict ion fact or. Addit ionally, it 's proposed a new correlat ion for est imat e t he Nusselt number
t hat reduced in 26% t he difference relat ed t o t he experiment al dat a.
