4.5 *(Optional) Massive
ng

ai
Massive MIMO is a leading multiple-antenna technology and a key technology for 4.5G. It features the use of
massive antenna arrays (up to 64 antenna arrays) on a single eNodeB for 3D beamforming and multi-user

T r
multiplexing. This technology reduces the demand for site resources, improves network coverage, and

ei
enhances user experience with various services.

a w Traditional multiple-antenna technologies support beam adjustment only on the horizontal plane. Massive

u
MIMO, in contrast, supports adjustment of broadcast beams and downlink traffic beams in both the

H horizontal and vertical planes, significantly enhancing system coverage.

Massive MIMO supports multi-user spatial multiplexing using up to 8 layers in the uplink and 16 layers in
the downlink, significantly improving system capacity.

1 Adding an FDD/NB-IoT Cell (Common)
1.1 Application Scenario
 There are weak-signal areas or coverage holes in the current eNodeB coverage, requiring an additional
cell to supplement coverage.
 As the eNodeB traffic increases, the capacity requirements of cell edge UEs (CEUs) cannot be met. In
this situation, the coverage areas of the existing cells need to be reduced and an additional cell needs
to be added.
n
 The operator uses a new frequency band.

C
There is a weak-signal area in the current eNodeB coverage. We need to add an additional FDD/NB-IoT
cell to supplement coverage. We adopt the following scheme: add an LBBP and an RF module. Figure 1

12 Transmission Capacity Expansion from One UMPT Board to
aw UMPT Boards (FDD/NB-IoT)
Two
Hu12.1 Application Scenario
 You can expand transmission capacity from one UMPT board to two UMPT boards if the volume of
traffic that flows over the eNodeB configured with a single UMPT board cannot meet service
requirements.
 Currently, the model of the UMPT board used for LTE is UMPTb. The total uplink and downlink
traffic volume supported by UMPTb+UMPTb can reach 4 Gbit/s.
12.2 Task Description
After the UMPT board is added, two UMPT boards must be connected to different ports of transmission
equipment to ensure transmission traffic. Assume that the two UMPT boards are connected to different
ports of the same switch and router. Figure 8 shows the topology changes before and after the
reconfiguration.
