Successful Entrepreneurs

As an Industrial Engineering major in Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna, Eldy Jane

Medalla worked as an engineer for Japanese manufacturing companies. After years of working, Eldy
Jane quit her job because she felt that he wasn’t fulfilled and well-compensated for the number of hours
he spent working every day. She decided that it was about time to be his own boss and opened his own
business.

She enters the food industry since she has always been fond of eating. She first consulted her
parents and boyfriend whether it was a good idea to pursue her food business because she was unsure
whether the income would be sufficient. Soon enough, her “Resto-Rax” came to life.

“Resto-Rax was founded by a couple, a musician and an engineer who began selling burgers
with fries and drinks in their garage. The couple identified the potential of the business concept, and the
first Resto-Rax branch open June 2017. The business located at Sta. Anastacia Sto.Tomas, Batangas
City. Its specialties are serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, burgers, pizza and coffee.

Below is the list of questions I asked her during my one on one interview with her and her
boyfriend:

1. What is unique about your business?

We deliver extraordinary service. We customs our burgers and pizza based on customer needs
and wants.

2. What are your responsibilities as the business owner? Everything! I have a responsibility to my
customers and vendors. So for every decision I make I have to think about the consequences and
weigh a lot of factors. In the end I am ultimately responsible.

3. What is the secret formula to a successful business?

a) Don’t be afraid to take risks. She emphasizes the word “hard work” that we never know
the outcome of our efforts unless we actually do it. “Try and try until you succeed” she
added.
b) Believe in yourself and in your product. She also said that there’s no doubt that running a
business takes a lot of time. The only way to succeed in your business is to do work that
you truly believe in.
c) Develop a competitive edge and be unique. She believes that competitive edge is
something that every company and product does better than its competitors. Innovation is
key and change is constant.
