Describes in details Layout 1

This is a letter which is write by a private person to a firm. On

the top there is sender’s address, but it is written without a name.
Bellow an address we leave out a line and write a date. There are
more possibilities how write a date, but the best is write a month,
because there are some differences in American and British date.
On the leftside there are inside address, in the first line there
can be person, name of the firm, name of the department, this tape:
Ltd, Inc. Next line – name of the house, in Czech language we don’t
write it, next is the street, next is part of the city, next line is
name of the city with the postcode with number, next is name of
country in blocked capitals.
Then we leave out one line again and we write attention line, it
must be underlined. We don’t have to write it in British
correspondence, if we wrote it in address. Then we leave out a line
again, and we write salutation, there are more possibilities, Dear
Sir or Madam, Dear Sirs, Dear Mr. Brown...
After salutation, there must be a comma, next part is body of the
letter and it must start block capital at the beginning. Body of the
letter is divided of the paragraphs and there are two styles how to
write a body of letter (first – idented style, the second – blocked
style). The blocked styl is used more. After the body of the letter
we leave out a line again and we write complimentary close, there
must be a comma again (isn’t a name in address – Yours faithfully,
is a name – Yours sincerely). We usually write a signature – first
handwritten signature and then the typed signature, after
handwritten there should be Mr. or MS. It is usually in brackets.

What are differences between Layout 1, 2 and 3?

Layout 2
This is the letter by the firm to a private person, there isn’t
sender’s address but there is printed letterhead. It includes name
of the firm, address of the firm, some contact people and of course
contacts as websides, telephone, e-mail and so on.
After leaving out a line, there are references – information about
type of the letter, initials of people or date. It depends of firm,
how they decided. Then a date on the leftside again, receiver
address, salutation, body of letter, complimentary close and per pro
– on behalf of firm, if the letter is sent by the firm, we can write
company position. At the end there can be enclosure, only one: Enc,
more: Enc(3) and a number in brackets. If we write to the body of

the letter what enclosures we send, we write only the number. If we

don’t write it, we must appoint them.

Layout 3
We can write private and confidential, it must be underlined and it
must be mainly on the envelop. Next part is subject tittle, it isn’t
neccesary in British letters, but if you write it, it must be
between salutation and body of the letter, it is big different
between English and Czech letter, and it is underlined. In the last
link – copies: you write name of people or firm who get the same
letter as receiver.

Are there any differences in writing between Czech and British

letters?

There is necessary to write, for example, subject tittle in Czech

letters, but in English it isn’s necessary. And if we write subject
tittle it must be between salutation and body of the letter in
English correspondence. In Czech correspondence we write it between
the inside address and salutation. We don’t write the name of house
in an address in Czech letters, but in English we write it. We don’t
have two different complimentary close in Czech correspondence. We
haven’t to write Mr. or Ms., because the women have different family
name.

Which business letters are you able to write?

We are able to write: enquiry, offer, order, applications for

a job and curriculum vitae
