There are some benefits when filmmakers grow up with equipment.

Film equipment

are not just for adults, they are appropriate for the younger one as well. Experts say there

are many benefits that young filmmakers can receive from the process of making video.

First Benefit is in Media Literacy, young filmmakers these days are growing up in the

generation of television and video games. At times, fantasy may seem like reality to

them. Second Benefit is in Developing the Imagination, with equipment, young

filmmakers can let their imaginations go. Teens around the ages of fourteen, fifteen and

sixteen ordinarily have very active imaginations. Giving teens exposure to

communicative tools like video cameras will allow the same teens the freedom of

experimenting with their own imaginative growth. As a teen’s imagination develops, so

does his or her social skills, learning abilities and overall sense of well-being. Benefit

number three helps young filmmakers in Improving their Confidence. Young People love

to see themselves on camera, whether it’s acting in a videotaped mini-play, singing,

dancing or otherwise hamming it up. Children gain more than just entertainment from

watching themselves perform on television; they also gain self-confidence. When a child

discovers an area he does well in, he gains self-esteem. Kids of all ages can become

comfortable on camera or in front of others by seeing themselves on tape (Bisaga, 2003).

A great film artist suggests that parents and family members watch videos shot by

their children, and then encourage them that videography can be a fun way to learn. It

can give them lots of positive feedback and reinforcement that may guide them in the

areas of public speaking, dancing, acting, music or other performing arts and that teens

who enjoy performing are many times natural hams and that allowing them to videotape

themselves can encourage them to do what they like to do best.

Benefit #4: Improved Communication

A High school teacher who uses camcorders in her classroom to teach students

presentation skills help the students to learn. In one case, students focused about

weather. The teacher asked each student to research the topic, then pretend to be a

weathercaster on the news and present the weather on a video. The exercise made a

lot of them realize how important it is to speak clearly. They noticed some of the reports

were easier to understand than others. They also learned the importance of voice level

and speaking slowly and clearly when giving a speech (Kemper, 2004).

Benefit #5: Responsibility

Children love to act like grown-ups. Perhaps the toughest part of being a grown-up

is accepting responsibility, and one sure way to teach them about being a grown-up is

through responsibility. By giving kids rules to follow, experts say they can learn the

importance of being responsible and by showing the child how to operate the camcorder

and teaching them how to care for it, you can help him develop confidence.

Every amateur started with the basics, such as how to hold the camcorder, insert the

tape, turn it on and off and start recording. Young People may need to charge a battery,

clean the lens, attach a light or microphone or secure the whole thing on a tripod

(Sheman S, 1999).

Children should also know how to store the camcorder and put everything away in an

orderly fashion and by giving kids ground rules, you’ll teach them to enjoy caring for the
equipment. It will become a privilege to use it. If the children break the rules, that privilege

is revocable. In that case, children can learn what they did wrong and how it was

irresponsible (Will B, 1987). Children can try everything from playing sports to learning a

musical instrument when they are growing up (Bisaga, 2003).

Filmmakers are not robots, they also have their healthy lifestyle to maintain their

energy and keep them going. Applying this to young and old filmmakers, they do not

always face the computer screen or focus on the camera for a long time, which would

damage their health. That's why it is always important to maintain a healthy lifestyle,

even for filmmakers (Woodie E, 1973).

Kids these days always face the screen of a computer, listen to extremely loud music,

play outside dirty areas, and explore what their curiosity leads them to. Filmmakers also

relate to these situations as Editing, capturing a scene, and scene building have the

same dangers as kids do today. Therefore filmmakers, young and old always take good

care of their physical health.

Two aspects of health that filmmakers always deal with is mental and emotional

health. Stress is one of these, as making a single film always has a downside, and

maintaining physical, mental and emotional health is also same as keeping your

equipment in good shape and undamaged. Mostly film directors and editors are prone to

health dangers, as they are easily exposed to radiation, stress and sometimes anxiety.

Keeping a straight mind and keeping it positive can reduce anxiety and stress. Wearing

protection on the eye region, such as anti-radiation glasses (also called blue light

glasses) to reduce radiation and severe damage to the eyes and brain also reducing the

volume of your headphones to prevent partial deafness, also avoiding brain damage.
Following these practices and making them habits can avoid all kinds of health

problems that filmmakers get. Going back to the point of 'taking the risk', some

filmmakers in the industry took the 'risk' and failed both the film and their mental health.

Pinning your emotional wellbeing on whether your film gets made, gets into a good film

festival, gets distributed, makes money, etc., is a surefire way to fall into the traps of

depression and anxiety. Even if your film is successful, there are additional stressors that

come with that, so it’s important to keep in mind that through everything, you and your

wellbeing are more important than what you’re making, always (Greenberg, 2008).

Remember that what you are doing is one of the most difficult artistic pursuits.

Before you roll your first take, take this phrase and make it one of your mantras: I am not

my success or my failure. Focusing on the present instead of the past or the future is a

good way to keep perspective on what is truly important in life when you’re making a film.

This is a lot more difficult than it sounds, because you want your film to succeed.

Remember that films succeed because they tell great stories.

We like to think of production as a magical bubble. If everything goes right, we should

feel protected from worry, and be able to focus on making what is in our head the reality.

It’s a spiritual experience in and of itself to create these alternate realities for the screen.

Make sure you’re able to appreciate the experience while it is happening, instead of

focusing on what could or might happen later, that worry is for another day.

Seeing film as the highest form of art, it’s also a good choice of career. As for our

young Filmmakers at Media Arts, this is the best opportunity for them to get a good kick-

start for their skills and talents on mass media, which is where media arts are best at.
Why is it film is the highest form of art? Film possesses every aspect of art in our daily

life. It takes writing, story making, photography, drawing, painting, concept art, animation,

visual effects, music, acting, and a whole host of talents, abilities and skills from talented

individuals. If we combine all of those with a bit of inspiration, dedication and

perseverance, this so called ‘film’ the young filmmakers made, will be the tiny little spark

of their future career (Wise R, 1976).

As perceived in the study, some of the respondents claimed that they are

handicapped. The researchers find out that when it comes to level of job satisfaction, honor
graduatesare found to be satisfied with their current job. With these, the graduates will

One Film Artist suggests that when you’re thinking of an extracurricular activity to

expose your child to, consider letting them try out video production as well. This can

provide a way for the child to explore his creative side. He may learn that he has a real

eye for photography or a knack for public speaking. No matter what the case, kids can

explore their individual talents through the lens. Different kids have different learning

styles. For visually oriented children, video could provide an opportunity to explore a

visual channel of communication (Locke K, 2003).
