CHAPTER 3: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO?
In this chapter, we are going to learn about expressions used to ask and to tell about intentions or plans.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Diakhir pelajaran, peserta didik diharapkan dapat:

Menjelaskan fungsi sosial dari teks “menanyakan dan menyatakan niat” dengan tepat dan sikap serius

Menentukan struktur dari teks “menanyakan dan menyatakan niat” dengan tepat dan sikap mandiri

Menggunakan ungkapan “menanyakan dan menyatakan niat” dengan tepat dan sikap mandiri
Menggunakan unsur kebahasaan ‘be going to’ dan ‘would like to’ dalam teks “menanyakan dan menyatakan niat”
dengan tepat dan sikap mandiri
Membuat teks dialog sederhana tentang menanyakan dan menyatakan niat dengan memperhatikan kesesuaian
isi dialog dengan situasi yang diberikan, struktur teks, unsur kebahasaan, dan pemilihan kata yang benar dan
sikap bertanggung jawab
Memperagakan teks pendek sederhana tentang memberi informasi terkait niat melakukan suatu tindakan dengan
memperhatikan kelancaran, pengucapan yang benar, kesesuaian isi dialog dengan situasi, dan kekompakan
dalam bermain peran, serta dengan penuh percaya diri.

Instruction: Watch the video played by your teacher!
Transcript:
SANTI : Bayu, do you have any plans for this long weekend?
BAYU : Definitely! My dad and I are going to go fishing. We plan to go fishing in a lake near my
uncle’s house. Would you like to come with us?
SANTI : I don’t really like fishing. I would rather stay at home than go fishing. What about you,
Riri? What are you going to do on the long weekend?
RIRI : I have made a plan with my mother about what to do on this long weekend. We are
going to practice baking cookies.
BAYU : Are you going to bake choco chips cookies like the last time?
RIRI : Well, yes. That is my favorite. But we will also try to make ginger cookies. What about you,
Santi?
SANTI : I don’t know. I don’t have any plan yet.
RIRI : Oh, would you like to join me to learn baking cookies? You can come to my house.
BAYU : It’s a good idea! Or will you go fishing with me and my dad?
SANTI : Uhm, not fishing I guess. But I think I would like to bake cookies with Riri. Thanks for asking
me to join you Riri.

Be going to
Be going to is similar to Will in meaning, the difference is be going to used to
tell future activity that has been planned before speaking. Whereas will
is used to tell future activity that is decided when speaking.

Pattern:
S + be (is, am, are) + going to + V1 +Compliment (Object/Adverb of
place or time)
I Am
You, They, We, Plural Are
He, She, It, Singular Is

Examples:
a. (+) Saras is going to visit Mount Bromo next week.
(-) Saras is not going to visit Mount Bromo next week.
(?) Is Saras going to visit Mount Bromo next week? Yes, She is/ No, She is
not.
b. (+) Tom and Tim are going to go fishing tomorrow.
(-) Tom and Tim are not going to go fishing tomorrow.
(?) Are Tom and Tim going to go fishing tomorrow? Yes, they are./No,
They are not.
Would like to
Would like to means want to, but also has the similar meaning with be going
to.
Pattern:
S + Would like to + V1 + Compliment (Object/Adverb of place or time)
Contoh:
a. (+) Father would like to stay in Jakarta next month.
(-) Father would not like to stay in Jakarta next month.
(?) Would Father like to stay in Jakarta next month? Yes, he would./ No,
he would not.
b. (+) They would like to get married on April 25.
(-) They would not like to get married on April 25.
(?) Would they like to get married on April 25? Yes, they would./No, they
would not.

ARDI : Why don’t you go with us? You said you have not watched Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw yet.
TAUFIK : Actually, I would like to, but I can’t. I have not finished my homework.
