What you need to do before

you start investing

Are you prepared to invest in the stock market?
It’s easy to get excited about building your wealth through the stock
market, especially once you have extra cash set aside for it. But just
because you have money to fund your trading account, doesn’t mean
that you’re to begin investing!

Follow these 7 tips before you start investing, and you’ll have a solid
foundation for your wealth-building journey:

Spend less than what you earn

Many people struggle to live within their
means. If you start investing while you still
have bad financial habits, you’ll have a hard
time building your wealth even if your
investments have high returns.

Know your net worth

Savings Account
Net worth is the peso value of what you own
minus anything you owe. If you’re more
focused on your paycheck rather than this
figure, it’s a sign that you may have to tackle
short-term financial goals first, such as
having enough savings.

Get rid of debt

Not all debts are bad. If your debt adds real
value or income, it’s probably good debt. If
you have bad debts though, any profits you
earn from investing may be wiped out by the
interest that you have to pay on your debt.

1
Prepare an emergency fund
If you have an emergency fund, you can pay
for any unforeseen financial setback without
touching your investments or savings. An
emergency fund can be based on 3-6 months’
worth of living expenses, or whatever
amount is more reasonable for you.

Think about your financial & life goals

Know what your goals are, and prioritize
them based on their importance to you. You
need to know you will use or need the
money that you’ll invest, and you’ll be
investing it for. These will help you decide
how to invest and what to invest in.

INVEST

Surround yourself with like-minded

people
You could have the right mindset but if you’re
around people who don’t share the same
financial perspective, it will be harder for you
to take control of your finances and commit
to your investment plans. Be around people
who will support your financial journey.

Understand your investment options

Many beginner investors rush into investing
without knowing how to do it, losing money
in the process. Do your research - understand
all of your investment options to know what
best suits you and your investment goals.
