9. AIMS & OBJECTIVES


The course aims to provide students with a positive perception of cultural diversity. Students
will increase awareness of cultural diversity and learn to translate it into tolerance, respect,
and appreciation for the uniqueness of all people and cultures.

 Migration and Identity
 Differences in communications
 Obvious and unobvious believes and values
 Differences in worldview, traditions, myths

 Acculturation strategies: Assimilation, separation, integration, marginalisation

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

Programme Title: Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Psychology


PILO Upon successful completion of the Programme, students should be able to:
PILO 1 Apply basic psychological concepts and theories to conduct meaningful and
creative psychological research.
PILO 2 Work independently as well as in groups to evaluate and assess evidence,
tolerate ambiguity and act ethically to solve problems related to human
behaviours and mental processes.
PILO 3 Apply information technology competence to aid / support research, examine,
and report findings in psychological practice and research.
PILO 4 Communicate effectively, in both written and oral presentation to other
professionals, government, clients, as well as peers.
PILO 5 Distinguish and relate to the complexity of intellectual and cultural diversity in
China and the international context in the practice of Applied Psychology.
PILO 6 Develop insight pertaining to his / her professional growth, behaviour and the
behaviour of others while applying effective psychological strategies for self-
management, personal development and achievement.

CILO 1 The instructor will present concepts and theories related to Culture
Diversity in classroom lecture.

CILO 2 Students will be given a case study exercise and each student will present in
written form.

CILO 3 Each student will be working in team wherein each of them will present a
topic related to a theme of culture diversity. Students will give a group
presentation in class.
